EXCLUSIVE: Mixmag Tour Hits Egg London This Friday 17th!!!

This article is about Mixmag Tour Launch Party @ Egg in London (UK), Fri 17 Oct 2008

Straight off the back of celebrating their 25th birthday this year, Mixmag undertake their first tour in 7 years. Here's an exclusive insight into this Friday's mammoth Mixmag event at the Egg nightclub in London: a 12-hour marathon that will truly leave you scrambled....

It's been a long time in coming but Mixmag are back - BIGGER and better than ever! It's back to being at the forefront of dance music's fingertip, back to touring and showcasing the finest acts and artists in the industry and back to - well - the old skool.....

And... what better venue to showcase their varied array of talent at than the Egg and its girl-next-door, Apothecary. Four rooms of mind-broadening, genre-defining and body-grooving music to play with and run riot in.

For this WILL be a riot!!

With Herve and Riton causing madness in the heated outdoor Garden with new additions, Friendly Fires performing LIVE, Hatcha dubbing those steps in the Basement and Dissident Records keeping the anarchic party rocking in the Loft, you'll need to be made of stern stuff to get through THIS!

Oh, and did we mention the inclusion of Terry Farley, Shane Watcha and X-Press2's Rocky having a jam in the Apothcary. Sorry, that must've slipped our mind!!!

Being renowned for its legendary carry-on after parties, we are delighted to reveal that the exclusive Mixmag event will be a special 12-HOUR MARATHON!!! Starting at 10pm on Friday night and carrying on until 10am on Saturday morning, a truly unmissable night is on the cards as we invite you to run amok throughout Egg and The Apothecary.

We caught up with Mixmag's Nick Stevenson to hear his thoughts on this Friday's event....

This is Mixmag's first tour in 7 years, what took you so long(?) and how does it feel to be back on the road?

Its great to get Mixmag back on the road. The last two years we’ve spent so much time getting the mag back into shape that we haven’t had the time to concentrate on other things. Now that the mag is looking sharp again, we’ve found people are knocking on our door so it would be rude not to showcase all the DJs producers and acts that we big-up in the mag.

Who (or what) are you most looking forward to hearing at the party on Friday?

Music wise I am looking forward to hearing Hervé as he’s one of my favourite DJs – his production is so ‘now’ everyone else is playing catch-up. I’m also looking forward to getting a proper dubstep education from Hatcha. I interviewed him for the last issue so it will be good to hear him in action. On a personal note, I’m looking forward to seeing Little Boots as I’ve seen the pics from her last photoshoot and I think she’s hot.

Mixmag celebrated being 25 years old this year - quite a milestone - any particular high point / low points / anecdotes that your itching to disclose?

Having been working in some capacity for Mixmag for the last 8 of those 25 years, I’ve seen the mag go through lots of different styles, tones and editors but I genuinely think its never been better than now. Its also nice that the industry regularly echoes those sentiments to us. In the early noughties we lost a lot of our credibility but these days we’re leading front the front again. Anyone who disagrees simply hasn’t read the mag lately.

What does the future hold for Mixmag? Any exciting developments?

I’ll be the first to admit our website was bit of an embarrassment for some years but since we relaunched mixmag.net this year we’ve got quarter of a million people reading it. Its become a one stop shop for everything dance, particularly because no-on else is getting the dance news before us. It compliments the mag well as a lot of the stories that we we unable to print in the past, due to timing, can now go online the minute we hear them.

What time do the doors shut? I hope it's not one of those one's where you can't get in after 2am or something. It can't be cos it goes on till 10am right?

I'm asking cos I think that nightlife needs to be more industry friendly whereby an act can finish a gig at one club at around 2am and then go on to another club to check another act and get in. C'mon, y'all know it makes sense.
