Subfocus Interview

In between writing his new debut album, remixing for The Prodigy and globe-trotting on the international festival circuit, drum n bass star Sub Focus gave a few moments of his time to chew the fat on Mixmag’s forthcoming event at Egg…

Interview with the Filthy Dukes

We are Filthy Dukes. We were DJs, now we are a band and DJs and also producers. It was just Olly and Tim playing records, it sometimes still is in fact, then we started to work with Mark to make music.

Interview with Crystal Fighters

French fashion and music label Kitsuné boasts a lengthy laundry list of electro indie rock giants, among them Boys Noize, Bloc Party, the Whitest Boy Alive, Hot Chip, and many others. So it should come as no surprise that Spain's Crystal Fighters, a folktronic band that cleverly combines Basque folk instruments with drum loops, heavy synths, lilting vocals, and a rocking stage show happily joined their ranks in 2008.

Mixmag returns to London for 'Big in the Bass' night

Drop to the ground, take cover under a sturdy table and hold on until the shaking stops. This is it. The final London party before Mixmag set’s off around the UK on the huge Mixmag club tour in September. And this time around it’s all about bass.

From the kingdoms of electro, drum ‘n’ bass, dub-step, house and UK funky we’ve assembled the biggest bassiest beasts around.

We’ve got a live set from the smokin’ hot Basque electro five piece Crystal Fighters, plus DJ sets from London’s lords of indie dance – The Filthy Dukes, the hottest rising star in drum and bass - Sub Focus, original dubstep legends Hatcha and N Type, a live PA from the don of the UK Funky sound, Donae’o, junglist supreme DJ Zinc and the emotive, soulful d’n’b of rising star Technicolour, the superfresh electro of Boy 8 Bit, the party starting genius of Radio One’s Jaymo and Andy George, the dubbed out madness of High Rankin as well as People Are Germs and the Union DJs.

It's a multi room, soundsystem-enhanced, rave valhalla complete with outdoor garden for you shmokies.

This is room shaking, floor trembling, speaker punishing, party rocking mayhem. This is a solid ten on the Richter scale.

This is Mixmag Big In The Bass, 10pm Friday 24th July, Egg club, York Way, London.

We have exclusive £10 tickets avaliable only on DSI - Click here to buy them.

This is it. The penultimate London party before we set off around the UK on the huge Mixmag club tour in September. And this time around it’s all about bass.

From the kingdoms of drum and bass, dubstep, electro and house, we’ve assembled the biggest bassiest beasts around.

We’ve got Sub Focus, the hottest rising star in drum and bass. We’ve got Hatcha and N Type, original dubstep legends. We’ve got DJ Zinc, junglist supreme. We’ve got incredible new talent in the form of Crystal Fighters playing a full live set, the smokin’ hot Basque electro five piece already being talked about as the single most exciting live show in dance music. We’ve got the superfresh Boy 8 Bit, new young star of grinding epic electro. We’ve got the fantastic Filthy Dukes, London’s lords of indie dance, the party starting genius of Radio One’s Jaymo & Andy George, the dubbed out madness of High Rankin and the sheer dancefloor ignition of usual suspects People Are Germs and the Union DJs.

This is room shaking, floor trembling, speaker punishing, party rocking mayhem.

This is a solid ten on the Richter scale...
