Info

Within striking distance of Upper Street and the Islington throngs, The Embassy Bar has its Essex road location and effortless cool to thank for its ability to stave off the hoards of stag and hen nights and typical N1 punters. It is an opulent gem of an establishment, contrasting Victorian indulgence with seventies style, serving up superior cocktails and beers, by the friendliest management and staff.

Quality music comes in the form of DJs from Thursday through to Saturday, seeing both ground floor and basement transform with all the qualities of a late night club. The busy Embassy calendar has not only internationally renowned DJs but also includes monthly live music slots for up and coming and established artists alike.

Records courtesy of neighbours Haggle Vinyl, line the top of the horseshoe shaped bar, flocked red and gold wallpaper lines the walls, black leather studded seats and sofas ensure customer comfort. Grand chandeliers hang from the ceiling and flamboyant palms and flower arrangements set off the tone. Downstairs is entirely different though not uncomplimentary, and more sets the scene of a ‘70’s lounge with its veneer paneling and brown leather upholstery.

The bar smacks of serious love and care from current owners Frank Lambe and Adam Hill, who took over one of their favourite drinking holes when it came up for sale 8 months ago, and transformed it into what it is today. “ We made some sweeping changes such as the chandeliers and giving the place a touch of intimacy.” Say the owners, “really it was all about giving lots of TLC”.

WHAT THE PRESS SAYS:

“We can imagine Prince Williams own personal in-palace bar looking something like this….the feel of a gentleman’s playground .…downstairs a DJ spins for a tightly packed dancefloor - the mass of punters is simply a result of The Embassy’s enduring charm – go join the crowd.” Time Out Pubs & Bars Guide, 2004/05

“Bohemian and opulent – yet still scorchingly cool” Islington Tribune, 2005

“The Embassy has built up a reputation as Islington's hippest DJ bar, attracting savvy revellers looking for a place with a bit of bite. Candles turn this venue into a place of romance during the week, but come Friday…swarms of bodies fill the room for edgy club nights.” The Independent, 2004
