Rammed but worth it
Going to Fabric on New Year's Eve may not be everybody's idea of heaven, but with an excellent line up supported by Fabric's top quality sound there was more than enough to keep me happy. WARNING - I have a rubbish memory for DJs, so if I get anyone in the wrong order, please let me know :o)

Sticking with room 2 for the most of the night, a good set from the Freestylers ended before midnight when Ali B carried us through into 2006, everyone happy despite finding themselves packed in fairly tightly on the dancefloor and the 3 stages. Wandering through to room 3, DJ Vadim was keeping the chilled crowd there happy, but the pace was too slow and I moved on.

In room 1 – well, I confess I can’t remember who was on at 2am; I can remember finding the beats a little too predictable, and a fresh bassline or beat dropped in every few minutes just when I was getting bored and managed to keep me hanging around a little longer.

Returning to room two, the Rennie Pilgrem set was ending with some old crowd pleasers like ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl’ and ‘Born Slippy’ and as you’d expect the dancers were packed in shoulder to shoulder. By 5am, Atomic Hooligan had been on for 90 minutes and the crowding had eased slightly.

The Plump DJs came on at 5:30 and in the first 45 minutes of their set never let the audience rest for a minute, with no drop or build-up lasting too long before the beats and bass kicked in to a chorus of approval whipped up by arm waving from the DJ box. The highpoint for me came when they played Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder's 'I Feel Love', and even though they kept the music coming until 'Smack My Bitch Up' at 7:30 and on till 7:45, some of the consistency was lost (although I suspect my being shattered may have coloured my judgement)

The crowd was mixed – a little too male-heavy, meaning that any lone women soon attracted sweaty attention – most of them there to have a good time, but there were still pockets of people standing stock still in the middle of the floor seemingly oblivious to the fact that the rest were there to dance. I'm afraid I can understand Fabric’s loose no cameras policy, as after a while the crowds freezing to strike a pose became distracting. The staff were all friendly and good natured, but with a limited number on duty at the bars the queues became quite lengthy and the strain on them was showing.

Just before 8am Room 1 was still going, but I wasn’t; so we stumbled out into the grey morning (passing what looked like DiscoDolly-Gem tottering on gold high heels). I’m afraid a NYD afterparty will have to wait until next year…

I HAD AN AMAZING NIGHT! YEAH THE TOTTERING WAS A RESULT OF FLOORING IT ON THE STAGE IN ROOM 2 ALL NIGHT!
RENNIE PILGRIM, FREESTYLERS AND THE PLUMPS REALLY DID IT FOR ME.
EXCELLENT REVIEW

about the women to men ratio.....I'm with you on that one!
Had issues making our way through the masses due to paparazzi syndrome.
...and the crazy obsessed camera men! one in particular was obsessed with taking 'ions of photos of HIMSELF on MY CAMERA (which i then lost much to his devastation!
;-)
