Lisa Abbot:The Interview!Ballistic Beats1st Of May
It gives me great honour to introduce the next Ballistic Beats special artist just ahead of Ballistic Beats Hardcore Underground 3 Album Launch party on the 1st of May. A lady that has credits to the major, and boasting superior vocal talent that has lifted her to such heights within the music industry worldwide.
From worldwide universal to London, from U.K Dance to Club land Extreme: Lisa Abbot is now featuring alongside the other artists to complete this blistering Ballistic Beats line up!!!!
Lisa welcome and - bless,
First off for a mere few who have most probably heard your vocals on many a track and album compilation, could you please tell us briefly of how you came into hardcore / the scene and then started singing on hardcore tracks over all!?- "Wow, what a welcome! Thank you. It seems so long ago that I was in a little band called Jhal – Me, Fade & Bananaman, we wrote some great tracks. Around the same time I met Hixxy and Force & Styles and the hardcore ball really started to roll!"
What have you been up to this year so far in terms of business, bookings etc!? And - How are you feeling in the middle of this nasty Credit Crunch!?
"I’ve only been bitten once so far and had a gig in L.A cancelled due to their pulling the budget so I suppose it hasn’t been that bad! I’m finding the best gigs are at the end of the month on payday weekend when people really go for it and there’s a cracking atmosphere."
Can you tell us the last time that you performed in London and where it was!?
"Can you believe this will be my first hardcore gig in London?! Having said that, I think Jhal did one once but it was so long ago I can’t remember where it was. I’ve done loads of others at Heaven."
How are you feeling on the build up to, and your very first ever Ballistic Beats event!? "Really looking forward to it, can’t wait to see how the ravers in London do it!"
What are you inspirations musically? "That’s a tough one because I have such an eclectic record collection. It really depends on my mood. I suppose I like anything that's well written and hope that’s reflected in my own tracks."
You have worked with most of the top names within the hardcore industry and more aside. When it comes to composing a new song, is it all your work, or does the producer have the idea and you make it come alive!?- How does this work?: )
"I generally write all of the top line – lyrics, melody and all backing vocals, adlibs etc. The producer sends me the backing track and between us we’ll get something good going. As time goes on it becomes clear if a track is working or not, I’ve found that practice is the key when it comes to songwriting."
Are there any forthcoming secret projects in the hardcore zone, that you can tell us about, or tease us with- without having to kill us due to secrecy!?....;)
"There’s always something going on, but what I can tell you is that I have a collaboration with Vinylgroover and BK that will be with you soon. Also me and Andy Whitby are currently writing"…
What words of encouragement can you offer to any up and coming singing artists that would like to peruse the live music industry!?
"Be willing to do as much as you possibly can – the smallest gig could have a producer in the audience. I was spotted years ago by someone who worked at the BBC and started to do kids TV! It’s much easier to get yourself noticed these days with YouTube and everyone having bedroom studios, but pestering your local clubnight to give you a spot is an immediate audience and will really get things moving if you’re any good!"
Fave drink to help the throat on the stage?*If any?
"Water! If I’m not driving, chuck some vodka in it."
Do you have any funny stories from your time, on the road, a tour, time in the studio that you would like to/ or could share with us!?- The bigger the status name the better!, *wink wink- don't be shy...;)
"I’d have to kill myself if I told you ‘cos the implications would be too great... I’ve been in this business for such a long time you get to see all sorts and if I were to share any embarrassing stories I’d likely stitch myself up because it was probably me that did it. That said, I WOULD like to get hold of the little sh*t that smashed a glow stick into my face on the Clubland tour – we’d been ducking them all week and typically it was me that got it full throttle and ended up with a proper blackeye. Pics on Facebook. Grrr. Bloody glowsticks!"
Ahead of this Ballistic Beats can you throw out any words of encouragement to the pre Ballistic Crew, to rally them to the dance floor!??;)
"Let’s av it! Looking forward to seeing you on the dance floor, we’ll show ‘em how it’s done."
Top stuff!- Can you tell us about any of the tracks that you will be performing?...(If again it's not too top secret!)
"Golden oldies mate! You’re Shining, Getting Better, Timebomb & Open You Eyes To Love."
Lisa that is amazing! - Sadly rounding it off today as it's almost party time! Can you please leave us with any words of Lisa Abbott hardcore wisdom?...
"It’s hard out there at the moment so chin up and make BALLISTIC BEATS a night to remember!"
Lisa: thank you so much for taking part once again today. Thank you for your words and more importantly your time today. God bless and we look forward to seeing you on the 1st of May! Mr d.h.d & Courtesy of Ballistic Beats.
