This article is about TOTAL MAYHEM presents THE TIMELORDS + FREE AFTERPARTY @ FIRE Club in London (UK), Sat 12 Aug 2006
So first off what have you been doing this summer so far and what else do you have planned? Had some great gigs both over seas and here Ibiza & Amsterdam were great. Raindance was rocking, but the highlight had to be Tasty @ The Renaissance room. It was a great personal achievement proving all of hard dances critics wrong. Hard Dance is heading in exciting new directions, and I really feel that my self and Tasty have our fingers on the pulse of the new generation
Can you remember the first rave you ever went to?
Labrynth - Silver City, Wood Green June/July 1989, Kenny Ken was on the decks I stood watching in awe as he mixed Orbital - Chime with Loose Bruce - Feeling Moody.
How long have you been in the dance music industry and where did it all start for you?
My 1st proper job in music was 1989 in Pauls for music in Bethnal Green as a Saturday boy. It used to sell the tickets for all the big raves, and loads of Dj’s like Hype, Kenny Ken, and Ellis D all used to come in, as well as many of the centre force and sunrise Dj’s.
What style of music do you enjoy playing the most and why?
I enjoy it all; I love the hands in the air reaction to hardcore. The heads down lost in the music vibe of hard dance, the nostalgia of Old Skool. I love all music and all the different vibes it brings to a party.
Your last set at Total Mayhem with Sharkey went down a storm what can we expect from you this time?
More party madness, I always love Total mayhem and a lot of love goes in to it from the promoters. I never plan a set I just get there and go with the flow. Too many Dj’s turn up with 50 records and pre planned mixes. I'm not in to that; it's all about going with the flow.
What 3 parties stand out most in your djing career?
The 1st desire @ Tesco warehouse 1992. Enchanted Forest Adelaide 2004, and the last Tasty - Generation Energy July 2006, it proved to me I am right to stick to my guns and to keep pushing hard dance ... I love it!!!
Do you have any strange habits when you play?
Not sure. Other people might notice stuff more then me. I have to admit I'm partial to a balloon or 10 when I'm playing.
What’s the most random thing you have seen in a club?
A guy takes off all his cloths at Labrynth in 1990 and dance around trying to hump every girl in sight. Bizarre at the time. But amusing to think about now.
Where is the weirdest place you've ever played?
An illegal gambling den in Taiwan that got raided as I was playing. Crazy.
What do you prefer CD or Vinyl?
I play all cds. But to me a good tune is a good tune regardless of the medium it is being played on. Digital down load however is the future of music, and all Dj’s need to embrace it and push it forward.
Thanks for taking the time out to talk to your Total Mayhem fans and we're looking forward to all those classic you have waiting to storm us with on the 12th August...
