This article is about Never Grow Up // @ Fluid // 27th Feb @ Fluid in London (UK), Fri 27 Feb
Wahey!!!
Good news everyone!!!… It's weekend Eve meaning there's only one more sleep until the weekend … Result! And more good news is our second Never Grow Up preview is here for you too…
We’re showcasing some of the artists who will be rocking our event at FLUID on the 27th and today’s turn is Rob Alldritt from keystone South London night Get Diverted.
Rob and his Get Diverted crew have managed to build up a huge list of loyal followers due to their outlook on house. Not pigeon holing themselves to one area they embrace all aspects of it, so as long as it gets their crowd pumped they will carry on smashing it. Last year they threw one of the parties of the year on Brixton’s Dex Club terrace which blew minds on a gorgeous day of sunshine (the party Gods were smiling), and they have started this year with a bang by throwing a £5 pay back party with Prok and Fitch headlining and their next bash being a Valentine’s Ball with no other than smoking hot superstar DJ, Smokin Jo for company.
Here we ask Rob a few questions and give you a very special exclusive promo mix Rob has put together for us here at door.
- I've woken up to 6 inches of snow so that will be restricting my movements a bit. Being housebound will give me a chance to catch up buying tunes and get up to date with the new series of Lost :)
- My brother and sister are both older than me, so my initial memories are quite 80's influenced, Wham would be getting played from my sisters room and in our room my brother would be playing Depeche Mode and The Cure. When I hit my teens I massively liked rave music, so the Prodigy and SL2 were always blaring out. Then towards the end of high school I discovered house music at our local club and then I was hooked. I would tape every Radio 1 Essential Mix, record every episode of BPM, I just wanted to immerse myself in as much house music as possible.
- Erm when I hit 16 and still hadn't lost my virginity
Five Star - between the lines (non DJ)
Jamiroquai - Space Cowboy (Morales mix) - DJ
- It has been a tough ride as there is no escaping the fact that it is a lot of work and it can at times be stressful. But it is a worthwhile ride, it is incredibly satisfying when you put on a great party and you put a smile on peoples face. When a big name DJ tells you that was one of the best gigs he has played this year or a brand new Get Diverted punter says how much they enjoyed the party and they can't wait for the next one...they are amazing feelings.
- That's a good question, I really enjoy both. I am probably more recognised as a promoter and whilst there are a lot of DJ's who can go out a play to a decent standard there aren't as many people out there who can put on a decent party, so in that sense I maybe take more pride from promoting. But, I got into promoting because I wanted a great party in London to DJ at there is no better buzz than seeing people losing themselves in the music you are playing.
I am looking forward to it big time. I love the concept of there being different genres of music on offer for the crowd and I'll be making sure there is some ass shaking house music thrown into the equation. I haven't played at Fluid before but I know it's a good venue and with Jnr on the decks after me I know there will be some good music for me to have it on the dance floor after!!
