This article is about Never Grow Up @ Fluid in London (UK), Sat 20 Jun
Today I'm going through a few new records for my gig at Smart Bar tomorrow, as well as mastering one of my forthcoming tracks for a new UK label called 'Back to the Future'. Then I'm going to head out in the Chicago sunshine!
I'm a real mixed bag - I grew up on some hip-hop in my early years, and that somehow moved into Speed Garage (East London, innit), all the time learning from years gone by of Motwown, Prince and more. A lot of funk, soul and disco still inspire me today. DJ Sneak was one of my biggest early house influences.
It's going well! I've been picking up gigs Stateside - had a great time in Madison last weekend - and I'm working on collaborations with a whole heap of artists here.
There's a lot of house here obviously, from the best homegrown chicago vibes to more of a european electronic sound at times. Other than that I get out to a lot of rock gigs, and a few jazz bands too.
Haha, a lot of people keep asking similar things. I'm enjoying having a break from the regular promoting to be honest, i've spent a lot of time developing my production catalogue as well as enjoying my spare time more. Moochin certainly will have a future, maybe with one-off parties here, maybe with a label, who knows? Answers on a postcard please...
Thanks! Yeah that remix picked up some cool support from Sneak and Heather, I think it's one of my faves too. I have a few bits coming out on UK (BTTF) and US (1200traxx) labels, I'm working ona remix for Lost My Dog again, I have some new groovy stuff yet to shop and I've also got an EP coming out in chicago under a techy-fidgety alias ;-)
Yeah I am still working on the UK site, and I also run the US site too, much to a similar vibe; get people involved, share music news and career advice, blog on the future of the music industry, the digital revolution and marketing and development for independent artists. There's a great event called Un-Convention that's happening in Manchester while i'm back - lot's of like minded industry folk there.
Wow! Big question!..... Some of the hottest stuff I've received recently has come from Derrick Carter (of course) and Mazi (Audio Soul Project), and on a more underground tip, I really rate the Revolutionary Music label and a whole bunch of artists working and collaborating under The Loft Experiment project.
I'm really looking forward to the Never Grow Up party and playing in front of a London crowd again. Spinning alongside the Illicit Audio guys is always a riot too ;)
