Andy Whitby's One AWsum Night launches this Saturday at the Halo Warehouse in London, with a little help from his friends and peers in the scene. Tidy will be representing in both rooms, with the Tidy DJs closing the main room and a certain Kym Ayres will be dishing out a Tidy Girls classics set in Room 2. We had brief chattings with this rising hard dance mistress and found out some interesting factings!

How the devil are you young Kymberley?

I'm fan-fucking-tastic thankyou Ben... and you?

So when you got the news earlier this year that you were being made an official Tidy Girl, how did you react?

Well I was actually in between meetings in London at the time so it didn't sink in straight away... I went out to celebrate that night though and got very drunk... much fun was had by all!

What does it exactly mean then - to be a Tidy Girl?

It means I am officially one of their DJs...basically... Alec (my agent at Tidy) is my pimp. He gets me bookings and I go out and represent the Tidy brand... it's quite an honour to be following in the footsteps of the likes of Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage and Lisa Pin Up.

What's been your best gig of the year then? WHY?

I'd say have to say the first Slinky we did at the new venue; Liquid in Portsmouth. It was amazing to see Slinky back at a home worthy of it and the atmosphere was insane!

Have you been back in the studio following the success of your massive ‘More & More’ with Technikal?

I have indeed, I’ve been working ‘Take It Easy’ which is my offering to the pending Tidy Girls EP which is due at the end of this year / start of next year and I’m finishing that next week. I’m also doing a remix of the new Shaun M track for Tidy and myself and Amber are mixing one of the discs for the new ‘Keep it Tidy’ album… exciting stuff!

Who in the hard dance scene makes you laugh more than anyone else?

Loads of people makes me laugh equal amounts. Alice from Slinky is my hardcore raving buddy and we have had many a fun time in hotel rooms after an event doing crosswords and eating pomegranate. Amadeus from the Tidy Boys is a big twat and never fails to entertain me and Olly Perris is possibly the strangest person I know and seems to be completely obsessed with lovespuds and talks about poo far too much, but he is a funny little fucker.

Do you think the hard dance scene is recovering after a difficult couple of years?

I hope so Ben…. I hope so. It seems to be though, the big nights are back on top I think!!

This week has seen Amato, a big vinyl/CD distribution company, and Resist – the people behind the Lashed, Reactivate and Bonkers compilations – both go bust. Do you think the situation in the industry is going to get worse?

I don’t bloody know! I think it will get worse before it gets better. They are going bust because of the decline in vinyl and CD sales, but when there is a drop in the market something else comes along that will make money, and the circle of life continues!

If I told you it wouldn’t be a secret. But I’ll tell you something not many people know…
