Disappointing
Walking through curtain road loud bass could be heard around the corner, getting pretty excited as I approached, but my first disappointment was that Guy Gerber wasn't playing... Ok, no one can be blamed for that, but when I got in there was a DJ playing some slow tempo music. This wouldn't of been bad if the guy could mix, he attempted a mix once and the rest of the time, he cut out one tune, then with a gap inbetween he started the next tune.

Another con was the stupid beer tokens, queue to buy bits of paper, then queue to give them bits of paper in exchange for drinks. Only being able to buy in multiples of 10 as well, when the drinks are 3 quid each!?!

I wasn't too keen on the bands, left at around 10 to go to another bar, came back at 12, ended up leaving at 2am because it was cold, uncomfortable, only one choice of music (the last band that I heard was particularly strange, the guy responsible for lead guitar was shit, constantly repeating one note squeals and dragging them out because he doesn't know when not to play) and the DJ, whoever the fuck he was, could not mix!

£40 down the shitter, I got in the cab and realised I had £9 worth of paper tokens as well.

Couldn't agree more! For a start who is the dirty-matt-von-flap advertising the concession guestlist on here because when we arrived with printouts in hand to confirm we were on the guestlist we were told he was not a promoter for the event and the guestlist had closed at 10pm, not at all what the supposed promoter had told us!

The flyers promoted this as different styles of house music, electro and some bands early on. The bands were all shit, the DJ's that attempted to play a couple of tunes imbetween the bands were equally as rubbish with music far too slow to get anyone dancing. We ended up leaving at about 2.30am by which time the bands still hadn't finished their constant drone.

Everyone we seemed to talk to was thinking exactly the same, no one seemed to enjoy this party. Go!Zilla, I think you've ensured a lot of people won't be attending any more of your nights!

I just registered to tell you how shit a time saturday was.

Yep, £15+++ down the pan. Shit DJs giving everyone a headache and getting no one dancing. And does anyone really want some kind of M People type crap band in a cold garage on a saturday night?

Keep fleecing the Barleys, no clubbers will be hurrying back. Apart from the totty being top class, this was a pony night.

Am sure your dealers made a packet though, probably best not to have them walking about selling with their earpieces in, bit of a giveaway.

haha - we were approached 3 times on the walk up along the raod to the venue.

We felt this was strange as this has never happened to us in London before and now we know why!!

agree with all these views, it was a massive let down from a venue that could have provided a wicked backdrop to an eclectic range of musical styles - not down-tempo world-nonsense that skipped across genres with no regard to the overall feel of the night... plus, if the guest list shut at 10pm, that gave you all of about an hour (if that) to get in on the guest list - so that was effectively a massive con too...

I'd just like to point out I'm not the promoter.... Merely a friend of the promoter. I was asked to run a list for people on DSI but cleary there was a lack of communication between promoters and door staff. I can only apologise for that.

The night was a completely new concept, different to any other Go!Zilla night, and believe me nerves had been running high for quite some time before it. They decided to try something new, and perhaps had it been organised slightly different with less bands and more DJs, it could well have worked. The promoters admitted there were far too many bands. Saying that, about 2.30 the live music stopped and and the DJs came on to play some brilliant sets.

That aside, the night was always billed as a showcase of live indie bands with DJs finishing off proceedings...

I'm sorry Matt but did you attend the same night as me? The Dj's were terrible and there was no organisation with bands testing their equipment over their sets!!

They couldn't mix and their tune selection was diabolical!!

Go!Zilla should never be allowed to hold an event which people pay money for again, in fact they should pay people to go to the next one!

What a bloody waste of time!

I am going to see Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath on Friday. Arguably 2 of the best DJ's in the world and I am paying 10€ for the privilege, which is about £7.

We paid £15 for this pile of wank (well put Perdi), what is going on??

Noone from Go!zilla has responded to any of these comments....I wonder why?!

An apology would be good!!

Music : Electro House, Deep House, Progressive House, Tech House, Acid House, Electro, Minimal Techno, Detroit Techno, Disco, Chillout / Leftfield and Indie

There was a full line up on the events page, with links to each of the acts' Myspace pages where you could get a taster of what to expect.

Matt can you honestly say, hand on heart, that you had a good time?

I didn't hear any of the genre's which you didn't put in bold, ie all of them. Is that why you didnt put them in bold?

Music: Down-tempo, Suicide cult, Last Sacrifice, Indie

I think would be a fairer description of the music played on Saturday!!

Did you stay to the end? We were there until 6am and the last four hours (I think, my morning just got messier) were good in my opinion. James Priestley played a fantastic set.

I had a good night once I'd sank quite a fair bit of booze, I'm not a fan of live music though. I took along my boss who is a huge indie fan and loves her techno too and she enjoyed it thoroughly. The concept would be a good idea if perhaps the bands had finished around 11. That way the drinkers could disperse, leaving the techno bods to carry on until the morning.

As I've said, it was a learning curve for all involved.

without wishing to drag this out, we left at around two-ish, and missed James Priestley so would prob have enjoyed that...

But, before we left it was live bands and what might be described as alternative jazz-funk-world-dance DJs filling in the gaps. I wouldn't go as far as saying the bands were indie, more experimental live dance/rock crossover. Again not as advertised.

The empahsis on the promo was definitely placed on the dance side, probably as they knew indie heads wouldn't stay out til 6am. But when what you get until 2am is neither truly one thing or another, I don't think it's really on - also I coulnd't see set times anywhere so communication on the night was also really poor.

Matt I think it may be an idea to pass this thread onto whatever contact u had at Go!zilla and see what they think, if only to ensure their next night is not an entire disaster... Would also be interesting to hear their side of things.

I personally think it's awful that promoters are able to get away with this kind of thing. It happens all the time and unfortunately there seems to be no way for people to get their money back etc. It's immoral... but I guess that's what name Go!Zilla! has for itself now...
