The Judge speaketh!

This article is about Judgement Sundays @ Heaven in London (UK), Sun 27 May 2007

Judgement Sundays takes over London's Heaven this Bank Holiday Sunday to show the capital what it's been missing out on in Ibiza, with a cast of Marco V, Sander Van Doorn, Hoxton Whores, Simon Patterson and many more in tow. Oh and did we mention some bloke called Judge Jules? He's looking forward to another massive summer season, with 15 Judgement Sundays parties at Eden, and he's just come back from a recent mini-tour of America. As if that wasn't enough, he's got his weekly Radio1 show, a regularly updated website on which he writes his extensive diary and a family to look after. What a slacker eh? We had a quick Q&A with the main man himself.

Sunday 27th May sees you bring Judgement Sundays to London clubbing institution Heaven. Can you remember the last time you played there? It's not often we've had the chance to see you play outside Turnmills or Serious in London in recent years....

It was a fair few years back, but it's always been one of London's best venues, what with its size and the amount of rooms.

So will Judgement Sundays: London serve as a warm-up of sorts for your Ibiza parties?

It's the third of three, each on a bank holiday Sunday. The other two have been in Blackpool and Gatecrasher Sheffield at Easter and Mayday. There's a fourth installment in the Irish Republic, where there's a public holiday the following weekend.

You've got Sander van Doorn on board as a fellow resident for the JS parties. Why did you want him to be part of the nights?

His sound perfectly embraces what the JS main room is all about - the combination of banging tunes with very groovy undertones.

What's going on in the 2nd room at the Ibiza events? Who have you got playing and what's the general idea?

In Room 2 we're alternating between 'Rogue presents..' where indie dance and very leftfield tunes will be played, with the likes of Shit Disco, Bloc Party and Eddy Temple-Morris DJing, with house on the other weeks, featuring the likes of Mason, Trophy Twins, Seamus Haji and new resident Micky Slim.

How was the Miami Winter Music Conference for you? We've seen some videos of you getting very "into it" while playing at an outdoor party!

I mainly played daytime outdoor events for local clubbers, and it was one of my most enjoyable conferences ever. It's best to avoid industry type events and stick with the party people.

You've just been playing out in the USA again in Dallas and Buffalo. What's the club and dance music scene like out there generally? What are the crowds like?

I don't think you can generalise about the dance scene in the US - in some cities it's very strong and all embracing, whereas in other locations it's more of a minority interest. Overall, the scene is bigger on the West Coast than the East, but every city from coast to coast has promoters and club nights.

What do you feel the general state of dance music is like these days?

Very healthy - the through flow of good new tracks is the strongest it's been in ages.

Compared to when you started your show their, how different a station do you feel that Radio 1 is?

The revolution had started before I got there, and the newer more irreverent daytime presenters were already installed. Evening wise, the station continues to cover a broad range of bases excellently.

Is there anywhere in the world that you haven't played yet that you are really keen on getting over to? Any venues in particular?

Rio and Hawaii... I'm open to offers!

And finally Judge Jules ¬ when was the last time you cried with laughter and what set it off?

Loads of movies and DVDs have that effect. Watching Eddie Murphy's Eighties 'Raw' DVD for the first time in years would be the most recent occasion.

Bit Harsh boys, each to there own and all that!

i thought it was a good personal interview actually!

Judgement Sunday has got some wicked lines up this year at Eden in Ibiza, check out the Judgement Sunday group page and flyers. With the second room sounds of Indie/house/electro clash Judgement Sundays are gonna be a right mash up in 2007!

Dusted is holding the second room at Judgement Sunday at Heaven this Sunday 27th May 2007 with the Hoxton Whores, Mark Vedo, Dj Pressu and the big man himself Judge Jules (house set). Couple that with Sander Van Doorn, Marco V, Simon Patterson and again Judge Jules (tough set) i thnk were gonna have a blinder!

Don't worry about the 1st few comments, they came from people into Hard House and Hardcore!!
I wouldn't really comment on a Hardcore DJ claiming that they're too fast, as it's not my prefered genre of music!!

Jules is an awesome DJ and plays the music best suited to his tastes, and deservedly one of the biggest and busiest DJ's in the World.
And on top of that, he's a genuinely a humble guy and incredibly friendly!!

'Judgement Sunday' will rock on Sunday, although I'm playing elsewhere that night, so can't make it...~:¬(
Good luck Chris!!
