Interview with Agent Bunnykins from Twisted Bliss ahead of Peach at Heaven!

This article is about Heaven in London (UK)

On Friday March 31st the biggest clubbing name in all of London makes a much heralded return. The one and only Peach takes over superclub Heaven for the first of its new monthly residencies. Featuring the irrepressible Graham Gold and a line-up that includes Johan Gielen, Tillman Urhmacher, John O’Callaghan, the SoulAvengerz and Darren Pearce (JDS), it promises to smash back into the capital’s party consciousness and leave yet another indelible print.

One of the things that was so magic about Peach, whether it was at the Camden Palace, Leisure Lounge or the Café de Paris was the mind-blowing atmosphere. Like a big family under one roof, people came from as far away as Europe and the States to witness the phenomenon. On the dance floor, in the balconies, from behind the DJ booth itself; the energy was both infectious and legendary.

So when Graham rolls his giant Peach into Heaven, is it going to be able to create the same electricity it did the first time round? The answer is yes if the dancers from Twisted Bliss have anything to do with it. Professional podium bunnies who spend their weekends working at some of the biggest nights in the country (lucky them!), they’ve swiftly become an essential part of many big raves and parties.

Kat from Most Wanted caught up with head Twisted Bliss girl Agent Bunnykins, who most of DSI will know, and found out what she thinks they can bring to what promises to be a very juicy Peach indeed!...

So you’re dancing at Peach – did you ever go to the original party?

Now what sort of question is that, any raver in their right mind went to Peach at Camden! In fact one of my first dates with one of my exes was a date to Peach and what a night that was. The tunes were fantastic atmosphere amazing, and the company was peachy (lol).

It used to be at the Camden Palace but now it’s back at London’s biggest super club Heaven – have you danced there before?

I danced at Heaven last year for Wildchild along side another one of the Twisted Bliss girls KB (Steph), loved every minute if it. The stage is one of the best to dance on. The first time I went to Heaven was for an event which Raindance did in conjunction with Tasty. And the atmosphere then to now hasn’t changed in my eyes.

What are your thoughts on it as a venue?

I have been to the venue many times as a raver. The venue is fantastic. I love the layout. From the first time you go into the venue you can see why it one of London's best super clubs

How did your involvement with Peach come about?

Twisted Bliss was booked to dance at Dance Aid @ SeOne back in January. CB, Maria, (the dancer who is dancing along side me on 30th March), was dancing for Graham Gold’s set, and he liked what she did. Graham Gold then got hold of my number from Maria and asked if myself and Maria would be able to dance, as I used to be a peachy raver I couldn’t really say no.

It’s a totally legendary brand in London. A lot of people that used to go back in the day will be coming down to the re-launch party. Do you feel like there’s a lot of pressure on you as dancers to make sure the atmosphere is as good as it used to be?

Now that is one question I didn’t want to see. I usually get nervous before I go on stage at any event. But this is Peach, like you said it’s a legendary party and loads of people will be coming back to relive those Peach memories. I, as a peach raver, will be under a lot of personal pressure to do well. As a dance team, Twisted Bliss works better under pressure.

What do you feel the Twisted Bliss dancers bring to a night out?

As it says in our name, we hope to bring a little bit of Twisted Bliss to the event (lol) and with Maria and myself on stage that is exactly what the event is going to get.

How did Twisted Bliss come about?

Twisted Bliss was originally run by Emma (Tinkerbell) and Fran (Smurfette), but then when I met the girls I asked them to dance with me at Raindance a year or so ago. After the event me and Emma teamed up and decided to become business partners. Since then Twisted Bliss has become known all over the scene, dancing at events such as Raindance, Blessed, Tasty and many others

What kind of events do you dance at?

Twisted Bliss dance at all types of events. We have even had a booking at a university student union, now that was a wicked night. Over the past 18 months, Twisted Bliss has been booked for such events as Raindance, Blessed, Frantic, Tasty, Digital Fusion, Reload, Nu-Religion and Slammin Vinyl’s Transmission. Three of our girls are Lashettes for the wonderful Lisa Lashes.

How many dancers are on your books and what do you look for in prospective new girls?

At the moment we have 12 girls signed to Twisted Bliss. But we do have many other girls which we do call on if a booking requires more specialist skills. When myself and Tinkerbell are out at a booking or otherwise, we are always on the look out for girls that have that little bit of Twisted-ness in what they do mixed with a little bit of pure Bliss which is what makes each girl of Twisted Bliss extra special.

Have you got to know a lot of DJs personally since you started dancing? Who’s your favourite personality and why?

I have got to know many DJs over the past few years, not just though dancing but though my promotional work for Raindance as well. At the moment I am very good friends with a couple of DJs that I wouldn’t not want to be part of my life. Many of my friends are wicked DJs, one especially, Raf, he is a resident in the Mad Hatter Hard House Party @ Raindance, he is also my best friend. If I am in bad mood and I want cheering up I only need to call two other DJs who no matter what mood I am in would have me in stitches and that would be the wonderful Ajay and the notorious Neil the Pornstar.

If the promoters of Peach came to you and said that they actually wanted you to dance around dressed as full-on peaches, would you?

Honestly, yes. I know that promotion is what gets something stuck in people heads. So if the promoter of Peach said can we dress as 2 peaches then I would, not only would it cause people to talk about Peach but it would be a something to talk about with the Twisted Bliss girls and it would stick in people minds.

In the past I have danced in costumes such as Sandy from Grease, Alice In Wonderland, The Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Queen Of Hearts, and my custom made Super Hero costume from Contagious Clubwear, Contagious Girl. We have danced as devils and angels, cops and robbers, pirates and many more. Twisted Bliss is open to new ideas all the time. We are very open minded when it comes to costumes

Where would you draw the line and say no to a promoter?

Tinkerbell and I don’t want Twisted Bliss to get known for the wrong reasons. Fair enough our costumes don’t leave a lot to the imagination but we have everything covered up that should be covered up. So I think if a promoter wanted us to dance topless then we would have to say no, I don’t believe nudity has a place on stages in rave/club land. Well especially in Twisted Bliss. As dancers I believe you should always leave something for people to imagine and think about, not have it all on display.

Have you seen more work since the re-explosion of hardcore?

Recently we have had a influx of bookings in the Hardcore scene with residencies at History Of Hardcore, Tasty, Raindance, and future bookings with Who’s Hardcore and Ravers Re-United. One of our girls Lynz, was on the video for the recently released Hardcore Adrenalin album as one of the hardcore honeys. Tinkerbell and I were also featured alongside Lynz on the TV advert for the Raindance Vs Helter Skelter: Hardcore 2007 album.

What’s your personal favourite genre to dance to?

I don’t have a personal favourite genre of music, it all depends on what mood I am in. Originally when I got into the scene I was a Slinky girl through and through, so I would have to say any bouncy hard house from around 2000-2003. Hardcore is my other love, but when it comes to my bookings I can dance to all styles of music, like at the moment I am getting in to my electro and breakbeat and hard trance. So really I can’t really say I have a favourite style. As I love all styles of music, it is a very big part of my life.

You’ve got a massive database on DSI – just how many buddies have you got?

Now there is a question that I get asked all the time. I have around 2500 buddies on DSI and I only buddy people I have met. I have a large group of people that I go out with each weekend. A lot of them from DSI.

Who are your best DSI buddies?

Mmmm, who will pay me the most to mention them. (lol). Well obviously I would have to say Seventh, Tink-TwistedBliss, CB-Twistedbliss, Kb-TwistedBliss-FB, Lynzxxx, Candy-FlossTwistedB, Loopy-TB-Dancer, Jenny-j-TwistedBliss, x-Nexus-x and loads more that I would love to name. In short I love you all xxx

How does DSI make your job as a) a promoter of Raindance and b) co-owner of Twisted Bliss easier?

It gives me access to a lot of way to advertise Raindance. Twisted Bliss also helps us by advertising events such as Insekt, Raindance, Blessed etc which we have residencies at.

What exactly do you have to do with Raindance?

When it comes to Raindance I run the Had Matters Hard House Party and the newly re-named Magic Hardcore Rave About. I book DJs, sell tickets and do web advertising. I also organise all the dancers that we use. Raindance doesn’t just used Twisted Bliss so I make sure everyone has got everything that they need and make sure there are dancers on stage at all times.

Sell a Twisted Bliss girl to a promoter in no more than 100 words.

Each girl has there own special selling point. The best thing about Twisted Bliss is the fact we are all individual dancers with our own styles. When you book Twisted Bliss you pay not only for the dancer but you also get added promotion. If I was trying to get Tinkerbell a booking then I would say that she is the hardest dancer who is the most sincere about what she does. Each event that she is book for she is dedicated to that event; she will not only dance but she will go on line and join threads about the event and sell tickets. Twisted Bliss will incorporate themes and colours into the costumes for the event. We work as closely with each promoter as we can.

Have you ever had boys on your books? Do you think there’d be a big call for boy dancers (outside of the gay scene)?

We have a couple of male dancers that we use if a booking requires them. Seventh (off of DSi), is one of them. We hardly have bookings for male dancers, but I would love to see more on the scene, so if you are a male dancer get in touch. We would love to see what you can do.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever had to dance and what happened?

I don’t really know, CandyFloss (Claire) and myself had a booking at a university student union which when we turned up was like, oh my god what are we doing here, but it turned out to be a wicked little night. I used to do bar dancing in a late bar that I used to work in, even now if certain tunes get played I know the routines and want to automatically go in to them.

Is there anywhere you wouldn’t dance and why?

I don’t think there is any where I wouldn’t dance. I will always try and check out a venue or a promotion before I take the booking for any of our dancers. I want them to feel safe. If Tinkerbell or myself can, we will always try and accompany dancers to the first booking they get. One rule we have is that we would never take a booking for someone that we wouldn’t do ourselves. I wouldn’t dance at event or expect my girls to dance at an event that doesn’t use the dancers to their full potential. I have seen this at some of the events my friends dance at and it really annoys me as they are wicked dancers.

What’s your favourite night to dance at and why?

I love all the events I dance at. I love dancing at events that have themes as I love to use our imagination when it comes to our costumes. When we dress up I think it also has an effect on the crowd. Seeing people on stage having a good time and dancing I believe encourages people in the crowd to dance as well. So I can’t really answer that question. Even though the Saturday just gone three of us danced at a new event called Reload and it was a fantastic night and loved every minute of it.

Obviously you’re doing what you love and getting paid for it – are there any downsides to the job?

Obviously with every job you get a downside. A few of the girls in Twisted Bliss have boyfriends and one of the biggest downsides about it is the unwanted attention. Fair enough part of job is to be approachable but sometimes men ask for our numbers which obviously those of us who are in relationships don’t give out. Another downside is that you don’t get a weekend off that often, fair enough I love my job and I love my girls but sometimes I would just love to be able to sit in on a Friday night, eat pizza and watch a DVD and not worry about any bookings we might have. Now I have to do that during the week.

Which DJ would you most like to dance for and why?

Honestly there is no one DJ that I could say I would most like to dance for as I have the opportunity to dance for a lot of DJs each weekend. I love to dance for DJs that react with the crowd – a good DJ for that is Alex Kidd. DJs such as Rob Stanley and Ajay (when they go b2b) are mayhem, they feed off each other’s energy which in turn makes the stage come alive, so I personally love dancing to DJs like that.

Are there any DJs in particular that you love dancing to at the moment?

At the moment it would have to be Rob Stanley and Ajay when they go back to back. True madness. When we danced at Timeless a few weeks ago we danced to Andy Whitby’s set – every tune he dropped just reminded me why I got into hard house in the first place, it wasn’t until someone said that he was about to play his last tune that I had realised that I hadn’t stopped dancing for the whole of his set. I do suggest to my dancers not to dance for longer than 20 minutes per set, then have a 20 minute break at least. I don’t want our girls to injure themselves.

What would be the perfect venue for you to dance in and why?

A perfect venue for Twisted Bliss to dance at would be one with a big stage so we don’t get in the way of the DJs (or MCs if the event has to have them). It would also have an area for us to chill out in between sets. But obviously a lot of venues don’t have this so we have learnt to compromise. We always make the best of what we have got.

Do you make all your own costumes? Are there certain rules that your dancers need to stick to with costumes, i.e. your skirt must be no longer than x amount of inches?

Sadly we don’t make our own costumes, I can’t sew to save my life. We get a lot of our costumes from Contagious Clubwear. These are some of favourite costumes to dance in. CB and I will be dancing in custom made costumes from Adjamiba. I have to admit they do look good. Let’s hope everyone else thinks so to.

So there’s a girl, who can dance the ass off Shakira she’s that good, but she’s also quite a bit on the large side. Would you employ her?

Twisted Bliss don’t care what someone looks like, what size they are, what colour their skin is, if you can dance then that’s what counts. Fair enough all the Twisted Bliss girls are quite small but we aren’t a size 0 small, We are all very happy with the size we are. I have begun to see more and more larger girls getting out there wearing more daring outfits and dancing which I think is brilliant.

Name one celebrity that you’d like to have as a Twisted Bliss dancer and say what you think she could bring to the role.

Now that’s a question I have no idea how to answer. I don’t know. I am sitting here on my bed and actually I can’t think of anyone. Nicole Kidman, when she was in Moulin Rouge. Ok fair enough I think she is brilliant anyway, but when she dances in that film she makes it look effortless. Plus what she could bring to Twisted Bliss is the fact she can sing, and so there would be a new area we could branch into. Other wise it would have to be Kylie Minogue, for obvious reasons.

Who’s your favourite dancer of all time and why?

My favourite dancer has to be the wonderful NEC demon. He is a wonder to watch on stage. The effort and energy he puts in to his moves are amazing. I would love to learn some of his moves but I have a strange feeling that if anybody else did them they wouldn’t look right. When I watch films about dance(ers), I think they must have worked so hard to get so confident to do some of the moves that they do, like Patrick Swayze in ‘Dirty Dancing’ (come on girls who hasn’t watched the film and ‘studied his moves’) I think I would love to dance like that. But then I realise If I danced like everybody else I wouldn’t be an individual.

In a dance off between Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, who would win and why?

I am not really a big fan of either, but I think it would have to be Timberlake, when I used to work in a late bar we had to a bar dance to one of ‘Cry Me A River’. Michael Jackson I think was a bit a head of his time with the moves he did in some of his videos.

Who would you rather dance for in concert, Britney, Madonna or Christina, and why?

It would be between Madonna and Christina. Madonna because, well she’s Madonna, so who wouldn’t want to dance for her. I think she has brilliant moves that I would love to learn. But then with Christina the routines she does to her videos are very simple but very effective which is why I would love to dance for her to.

What are you thoughts on poor shaven-headed Britney?

Well I love my hair and I couldn’t imagine shaving all my hair off. At first when I heard about it I thought WTF?? But then after thinking about she must be going though so much stress about the situation she is in, it has to be a cry for help. She had gorgeous hair, I couldn’t dream of having my hair cut off.

Great interview Bonnie! and thanks for the mention :)

Twisted Bliss have got to be one of the best dance teams around, not only do they have some of the most amazing dancers but the business sence of the owners is second to none and in my eye's this is what puts TB above the rest. you dont have to believe me just look how many residencies TB have, how can that many promoters be wrong ????

Good luck if eveything you do babes and I just know your going to blow the f*cking rroof off at peach!!!
