This article is about NODISKO'S MIDSUMMER LOVE-IN @ herbal in London (UK), Sat 23 Jun 2007
Although his career started long before, Cajuan released his debut disque, 'Dance Not Dance', in February 2006, and we've been hooked ever since. And we're not the only ones: Radio Slave, Mylo, Tomboy, Phones, Annie Mac, Fluokids, Tommie Sunshine, Superdiscount, Simian Mobile Disco, the Modular gang and the mighty 2ManyDJs have all shown him equally mad love.
The DJ and producer's foot-stompingly loopy take on techno is the missing link between the indie-disco-punk of the French new wavers Ed Banger, Kitsune and Institubes and the heavy heavy monster sounds emanating from the German electronic underground. Many have likened his music to fellow Hamburgers Digitalism: clearly, it must be something in the water.
At the start of 2007 Cajuan released his second single 'Raven', a big diskkko bastard of a track which left dancefloors in utter bits. It also secured him a No. 12 chart entry in Germany's hipser electronic music mag Groove and Record Of The Month in Raveline. Here in Blighty, Mixmag gave it top marks and iDJ said 'Fresh from making even the shyest of disco-goers throw silly funky chicken shapes... you best pack an extra pair of socks because it will blow them off'.
Cajuan's also one mean DJ: he rocks the decks from the first record he plays and makes the crowd go mentalistic in minutes. His pogo-orientated DJ marathons are a mixture of robo-electric disco, acid pogo, new wave and NYC disco-dub which he combines with accapellas, FX sounds, samples and an outstanding technique including 'old school hip hop' elements like doubling, scratching and phasing the records to separate the music from its usual context to give the crowd an extra-ordinary sound experience. Additionally he slams with a drum-stick live on a double-cowbell and moves the crowd in an extra-shocking rhythmical percussion excursion. Phew!
