Well well well..

After one hell of a major end of May Bank holiday, which at one point felt like it would never end.. the then abrupt and damning realisation on Tuesday .. ‘bugger.. I do actually have to go to work again!’ , coupled with the proceeding 4 days of miserable grey weather! had got me well worked up by the time Friday had come and I was really ready to let off some steam… thankfully I had a good feeling NuSkoolBreaks latest offering of top nights at the right price; Finnish producer Rico Tubbs’ - ‘Knuckle Sandwhich’ Album launch was going to be a banger! :)

Arriving at Herbal at 11:30, warmed up nicely by the eclectic bars of Old Street, and the glimmers of summer hope between the Friday evening clouds.. I was chuffed with my timing, as when I came back from the cloakroom Atomic Hooligan was setting himself up behind the decks of Room 1… which really is a great room for a breaks event….. dark, intimate… looooud! And it did not take Hooligan long to whip up a storm with a few choice belters.. For an extended hour set we were showered with some real party poppin, electro infused breaks; delivered with bundles of energy and timely use of samples on top of his mixes.. Atomic Hooligan showed once again why he deserved the Best Live Act at this years Breakspol awards.

By 12:30 Hooligan had done his work, and Herbal had turned into a full on mash up.. Some very cool peeps, getting their dancing shoes well worn in!.. and more eye-candy than you could shake a big fit stick at! The party had really started!
Jumping between rooms catching a real fine set by Blende and some of Mr ‘birthday boy’ Moneyshot's set.. controlling proceedings in Room 2.

Finishing off the main night in Room 1 with headliner Rico Tubbs, who was straight from a plane and into a rave scene.. and despite my reservations… Rico did the business! (Knuckle Sandwich will be purchased!) - A smash in the face set, filled with very well produced – bouncing, banging, full on party mode breaks.. getting dropped one after another keeping a hot and sweaty Room 1 rocking till the conclusion.. with cries for ‘ONE MORE!’ filling the 3am air, the Finn duely accepted and smashed out another cracker for the main room faithful… get in mate!

I carried on to the early hours in the VIP room, up high in the lofts of Herbal, where I enjoyed a few nice cold beers while being treated to consistently well mixed, soul infused breakbeat… received well by those not quite ready for bed.

All in all – a very enjoyable night put on by NSB.. in fact my only regret is not being able to be in both rooms all night – atmosphere was that good in both
Herbal was a great choice of venue.. they pull in a top crowd, cram them into a few dark rooms on a level each, with huge sound systems and says ‘there you are kids, have some of that’ …..

and you know what?! ….. they did!

Thank you NSB .. what a corker!
