QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST NIGHT IN SOUTH LONDON!!!
~*~ REVIEW OF HOT & SPICY'S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY AT HIDDEN - SATURDAY 8TH JULY 2006 ~*~

From their humble beginnings in July 2004, Hot & Spicy, and their partners-in-crime Plush Da Funk, have come a long way in establishing themselves as one of the hottest nights in London's clubbing calendar. All too often, many nights arrive with a bang and depart with a whimper.

Not this one!!!

Since joining forces with Plush Da Funk in November 2005, Hot & Spicy have firmly rubber-stamped their places in clubbers' diaries!!! I can testify to that!!!

What makes their parties at Hidden unique is the superb combination of Funky House, Dirty + Electro House and Old Skool House. Completely catering for all your needs. High-quality, feel good, uplifting music. It doesn't stop there. The decor, the dancers and, more importantly, the DJs all add to the experience. It's always refreshing to see DJs hop up and down behind the DJ box like Duracell bunnies. It's great to see them enjoying the music as much as you. It all gels together to create a lovely atmosphere.

At Hot & Spicy's 2nd birthday bash, it was business as usual... and then some!!! Roping in the likes of Grant Nelson, Graham Gold and Junior J for each respective room was a masterstroke.

The club was jam-packed as per usual and the music was of the highest order. It was really difficult to decide which room to go into!!! That's my only complaint. We found ourselves bopping away in the Old Skool room and then decided to go out onto the terrace for a breather. Upon leaving the room you have to walk through the Funky room to get to the terrace. No sooner did we do that, than we found ourselves going ballistic on the podiums in there!!!

Clearly, no rest for the wicked...

To make the night even more interesting, I had invited a small group of mates who are usually more akin to moshing away in a pit at the Electric Ballroom in Camden to some goth-rock than throwing some shapes on a 'dance'-floor (!)

I really didn't know if they'd like it or not or whether it'd be their cup of tea!!! What a gamble!!!

But they had a fantastic night and really enjoyed themselves. I was expecting them to politely leave at 2am and say an obligatory 'thanks' before swearing never to be seen in public with me again...

Instead, they were joining in the chorus at the end at 7am - shouting 'one more'. That CAN'T be right?!?!!

If you've ever been to an Old Skool night, you'll know how irritating it is to hear the same old songs. Surely, the DJs must realise that there are tons of other Old Skool tunes. What's the point in playing Baby D - 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' 17 times?!?!!

This is where Hot & Spicy get it right. They play some of the usual suspects but also branch out to give you some of the more obscurer slabs of vinyl. A few from that night instantly spring to mind. Orange Lemon - 'Dreams Of Santa Anna', East Side Beat - 'Ride Like The Wind' and Porn Kings - 'Up To No Good'...

Heck, even ex-Corrie star Martin Hancock (aka Spider) was there in the Old Skool room (see Muzz-meister's pictures). Just goes to show that Hot & Spicy can pull in the celebs, too!!! Alas, no Cameron Diaz, though...

Maybe at the next one...(!)

I can honestly say that having lived in London for five years now and sampled all things house from Defected to Hed Kandi, Hot & Spicy are definitely the best night in South London. I'm a real house-head (I've been into it since I was 8 years old!) and am very picky about my nights. I generally go to nights where I KNOW I'll be on my feet all night dancing to some seriously good house music. What's the point in settling for anything less??? Why waste your money on hearing just "a few good tunes" in a night??? If we're paying £10-£20 to get in, then we NEED to be entertained, don't we??? We should be hearing "good tunes" all night.

So, what does the future hold now for Hot & Spicy and its partner-in-crime??? Well, Plush Da Funk will be donning their finest Prada and heading off to Pacha. Whilst Hot & Spicy will be gracing superclub, Turnmills, in September with a mouth-watering line-up.

It'll be on September the 23rd, three days after my 25th birthday, so you know where I'LL be celebrating MY birthday. Guest DJs on the night will be Stonebridge, Knee Deep and Herd & Fitz...

Blimey, with a line-up like that, I just CAN'T get enough...!!!

I am with you Muzz on 'the only complaint being which room to go into'. I was like a 6 year old kid waiting for santa.

Well looking foward to the rest of the H&S / PdF outings. Long may their reign continue...

Aaah shucks!!!

Thanks for the plaudits Dean and Nols!!! And not forgetting you Feline!!!

It took me a wee while to write it...

Hope I did the event justice...???

Crikey, that footage of me when 'Insomnia' was being played!!! I guess I must've been trying to picture what our lovely boys in red and white would've been doing the next day had they not been knocked out by Portugal...

Instead I watched a talented French guy lose his cool...

Oh my God...

Hang on...

I'm JUST watching BBC News 24 and there's...

Breaking news........

Sophie Ellis Bextor has been found head butted to death in the apartment of a French footballer.

Apparently, it was murder on Zidane's floor........

He he he!!! Couldn't resist!!!

ha ha hallo! Muzz....

....ah such a top night...unfortunately I am so new to clubbing that last year is my old skool...how sad for me ...what on earth have I been doing? ...would have been there for Insomnia...

Was lovely to meet you...your photos are great. You can tell that I have no idea how to use my fancy camera....no prettiful lights or anything in mine! oh well.

Funny I kept going on at Dean about how I had been to Ibiza and it was good, but H&S was sooooo much better. Next year I am going when they play over there...I guess I can just pretend I went later....Hope to see you later at Inigo...yeah yeah yeah...see you on the tables.

I would love to, but I've got the weekend off so I'm using this golden opportunity to go and see my family. They don't live local, and I rarely get to see them, so I'm making the most of it - I really can't wait, it's been months! Have a good one babe!

Huck !! When Muzz said "Let me your fantasy 17 times," I did laugh as I remember you saying you played as your 1st tune!! Wasn't going to mention that but now it's out in the open at least we never heard it another 16 times!!

Lady Duracell please leave Huck alone, he is pushing 40 this year and is struggling to keep up with us younger folk. I think we should chip in for a new record bag with wheels for him as his back my start playing up now!!!

Oh...and Huck...

Regarding "Baby D"...

Just used that as an example - completely didn't realise you'd played it...

So, no personal dig there - I assure you...

Good set....

But Liam's was better...!!! He he he!!!
