Kurruption.. The Final curtain.

This article is about ElectronicSessions & Kurruption @ Hidden in London (UK), Sat 14 Oct 2006

6 producers, 10 DJs and a whole bunch of talent……

..Not something you see at many of your local events! This however is what Kurruption has had to offer for a while now and I thought it was a good time to let you all know about the talent that I have had on board and fill you in with a few things that they have been up to and where they will be heading in the near future.

This October I will be celebrating Kurruption’s 4th and final Birthday. There are various reasons why I will no longer be running the event but the time has come to move on. I’m sorry to be finishing it all but I'm looking forward to new ventures which will include things such as a new artist management agency - 'Bug bitten'

When I first started out with Kurruption the idea was to put some of the best new talent alongside upcoming and well known DJs and to this day I’m still working with many of the same DJs whose reputations have grown considerably alongside the event.

Kurruption is made up of 2 resident DJs – Alex Parsons and Tommy Four Seven and eight rotations DJs - Trent Anthony, Lizzie Curious, CD, Phill Noda, Clint Wuest, Vandal, Nathan Larkin and Mark Bowler. Over the years other talent DJs have been a part of our crew but many of the above have been with us for quite a while now, with Phill Noda being a part of it all from day one!

Huge thanks has to go out to everyone of the Kurruption DJs, past and present, who I believe are the nicest and some of the most talented bunch around. Thanks heaps for putting up with me over the years! Also thanks to all the guest DJs that have supported us along the way.

I’ll leave you all with a little information about all of the Kurruption DJs and I hope to see as many of you as possible at our last large event @ Hidden on Saturday 14th October.

Alex Parsons:
Alex is a Kurruption favourite with his versatile DJing skills always pleasing the crowd. With releases on Brique Rouge, Block, HY:BR and Fresh Meat under his own name and collaboration work with Trent Anthony under the project name Agent Toga, he's pretty busy in the studio! His and Tommy Four Seven's track 'Chocolate makes your clothes shrink' has received Radio 1 airplay and he has remixed for Brique Rouge, Audio Soul Project and The Shakes; a rising indie rock and roll band. Artists such as Audio Soul Project and Zoo Brazil are in the process of remixing his own tracks and there will no doubt be many more to come!
With a residency at Turnmills (Party Proactive) and guest slots at The End, T Bar and SE1 club, there are plenty of places to catch Alex playing out.
Sebastien Leger recently said …“Alex Parsons: Best Brique Rouge Artist, I like all his tracks’ … Says it all really!

Tommy Four seven:

Tommy has come a very long way after playing for Kurruption from the tender age of 16! Currently signed to Brique Rouge, Block, Hy-Br, iO Music, Love Minus Zero and Catwash Records, he is certainly making waves in the production world. Having remixed for the likes of DJ F.E.X and Mike Monday. Tom is currently writing an Album for Brique Rouge and his tracks are being supported by DJs such as Josh Wink, DJ T, Rui Da Silva, Tom Stephan, David Duriez and many more. With past sets at Fabric, Turnmills and Ministry of Sound in London, and others in Ibiza and Paris, alongside Josh Wink, David Duriez, FC Kahuna and David Guetta naming just a few, Tommy is certainly doing pretty well! He recently made it into DJ mag ‘s ‘gotta be big’ Section and I'm guessing there is a lot more to come. Tom has been a great asset at Kurruption events and a great friend to boot!

Lizzie Curious:
Lizzie Curious is well known for her enthusiasm & infectious energy behind the decks everywhere she plays! She spins filthy funked-up house, electro and breaks and has been DJing since 2000 at some of the nation’s most famous venues. In London she has rocked the Fridge, The End, Turnmills, La Scala and Heaven to name but a few, to the legendary Brunel Rooms in Swindon and the Concorde Club in Brighton. Lizzie holds residencies at *relish* in Cheltenham (South West), Break Out in Stroud and Unauthorised at Brownstone’s in Bristol and has shown endless support over the years as a Kurruption rotation DJ.
Lizzie has been knuckling down in the studio, producing breaks and electro tunes (including her own vocals) with respected producer Nick Sentience. It been great having Lizzie’s support as one of the few girls I have worked with.
Check out a few of her tunes here: Lizzie's Space

Trent Anthony:
Trent Anthony, one of the most recent additions to Kurruption is perhaps the most famous! Reaching number 12 in Australia’s first official DJ poll and having playing alongside DJs such as Sasha, Steve Lawler, Danny Howells, Jacques Lu Cont, Tyler Stadius, James Holden, Sander Kleinenberg, Stacey Pullen, Joey Negro, and James Zabiela, to name a few. Trent’s musical style, pulling in influences from progressive, minimal and tech house has been one of the inspirations for the 14th October ‘Far Side’ bookings. He has recently started producing, with his most recent Brique Rouge release 16 Steps, a collaboration with Kurruption resident Alex Parsons (under the guise Agent Toga) being supported by many of the greats, including David Duriez, Mazi, James Flavour and Simon Baker. The Uk had better watch out!

CD:
From the Ministry Of Sound to The Egg and The Cross in London and from Space, to Café Mambo and Eden in Ibiza, CD has represented both Kurruption and his own night Groove Factory in some of the world’s most prestigious venues. His characteristic musical style of electro house and breaks always gets the crowd rocking and his recent venture into the world of production has already started turning heads. His collaboration with Kurruption resident Alex Parsons has been signed to Brique Rouge and is due to be remixed by Zoo Brazil and his collaborations with Greg Brookman (Life Of Luxury) have also been snapped up. A versatile DJ and producer, CD is a top one to watch with charisma and personality behind the decks.

Phill Noda, Nathan Larkin, Clint Wuest, Vandal and Mark Bowler are the talent in kurruption that have helped hold it all together and all are certainly worth keeping an eye out for. Playing at various events in London they all have a great following and play all styles from house through to breaks and electro.
Phill Noda, a firm Kurruption favourite, has recently started producing his own tracks and can be seen playing at a great deal of local events. Nathan larkin has been offered some excellent gigs and is becoming more in demand playing regularly for Push and Heatuk. A highlight of his career being asked to play on the main stage at SW4 2005!
Sadly the UK will be loosing Clint Wuest to the land down under! He is due to return home soon but I have heard rumours that we may be able to hear him playing live on internet radio as he hopes to set up a station over there.
Mark Bowler and Vandal I’m sure will be around for some time having regular gigs at events such as the infamous Finger parties, Friendz, Push and many other upcoming events.

I'm one of those DJ's given a break by Zoelee, only a year ago, and what a life changing break that has been! Warming up the breaks room at Hidden for Kurruption was my first ever club gig and it gave me the confidence and desire to do it again and again. I must've played out 20 times since then, earned 2 residencies, and made so many friends I've lost count. Its sad to hear there'll be no more Kurruption, but good to know the people behind it are still very much in the game. Onwards and upwards! Good luck! x
