This article is about Nu Religion Presents Red Alert @ Hidden in London (UK), Sat 18 Aug 2007
With the Cyclone party looming up with Nu Religion @ Hidden on sat 18th Aug..we thought it was about time we introduced REDD SQUARE before his forth coming London debut.....to see what makes the man tick...
Hi Chris… so tell us more about the Redd Square project… when did you start it and what records have you released?
Hey there. My Redd Square project was started in 2002 when I did a track that was signed to Inferno Records called “In Your Hands”. The track was remixed by Minimalistix and became quite a well known trance record at the time. It reached no.18 of the UK Dance Singles Chart and was the ‘record of the week’ on BBC Radio 1. It also ended up being featured on quite a few compilations such as Trance Nation 2003 and Ibiza Euphoria.
My next Redd Square single was called “Run Away” and was released on Tsunami Records. It was supported by many of the main trance DJ’s and led to me being asked to remix Ferry Corsten’s “Whatever!” track. The remix was well received in the trance world and was supported by Judge Jules & Dave Pearce on BBC Radio 1 who played it for over 12 consecutive weeks between them. The remix helped to push the Redd Square name further and was also featured on many compilations around Europe. I also currently release trance records under the artist name Insignia. I also produce house music under different names and so far I have had 3 releases reach the top 10 of the UK Club Chart.
Great stuff!… so what makes a good trance record in your opinion? And which other producers do you rate?
I like tracks which stand out from the crowd. There are so many trance records around that follow the same old formula’s and melody ideas. I like to hear something innovative and cleverly written. I personally love really uplifting melodies that really capture my imagination and tap into my emotions. I also really love cool and interesting basslines in trance tracks.
Other trance producers that I rate at the moment would be Joonas Hahmo, Hiroyuki Oda, Bart Claessen, Stonface & Terminal, Store N Forwardohan Ekman. All great producers that are helping to push the scene forward.
Your London debut is coming up for cyclone @ Hidden nightclub on the 18th August, what can we expect from you?
Yes, im really looking forward to this night and it will be nice to be joining one of my team mates John Bentley on the line up along with the talented Jordan Suckley...and many thanks go to Cyclone and Nu Religion for giving me this opportunity to get heard in the heart of the South..i can't wait to be honest!
You can expect my normal blend of uplifting trance, with a touch of tech and bassline trance.
