This article is about Frantic Presents HDS 1st Birthday & Halloween Special @ Hidden in London (UK), Fri 31 Oct 2008
Welsh Euro Hard Trance Legend, Frisky, reveals some secrets ahead of her set at Frantic's Hard Dance Showcase 1st Birthday & Halloween Special at Hidden on Friday 31st October!
Where did the name Frisky originate from?
Well I actually played my first ever set under the name ‘Miss Conduct’ but I quickly decided I didn’t like it. I had been trying to think of a DJ name for ages, after messing around with my boyfriend one day in the house he said to me “you’re a little bit Frisky today” and I instantly thought it would a wicked name to use so it stuck. According to the English dictionary it means ‘energetic, lively and playful’!
For people that have not heard you play before, please describe your sound?
I would say my sound is tough, energetic and fun. You can expect some slamming Euro Hard Trance sounds mixed up with some of the best Hard Style with some cheeky bootlegs for good measure. As long as it sounds good and it’s gonna make you dance then it’s in the set!
How did you get into the Hard Dance scene?
When I was about 14 a Daughter of my Mums friend had left a Ministry of Sound album in our house. I remember putting it on as I was intrigued and I was blown away by it. I was hugely into my rock music at the time so my friends were quite baffled to find out I was getting into dance music. I started going to a few clubs and free parties with my older friends and I was instantly hooked, there was no turning back, had been bitten by the bug! I still love listening to my rock music too though!
What was the first record you bought?
I can’t remember the first dance record that I bought as I used to buy a load just to practice my mixing. The first record/album that I ever bought in my life was a Lional Richie album when I was about 6! I remember my Dad bringing me home the album on tape which I had saved for! Embarrassing I know but I still think he rocks lol!
It’s HDS 1st birthday, what’s your favourite birthday memory?
It has to be my 21st Birthday which was in February 2007. My gorgeous boyfriend (the talented Mr Juice of ‘Cally and Juice’) whisked me off to Las Vegas for a week and it was such an amazing experience! It is like Disney World for adults! Then on my return I got contacted by UDJS as they wanted to sign me to the agency – one Birthday I will not be forgetting in a hurry!
It’s also Halloween, what’s been your scariest experience in life?
Well whist we were in Las Vegas, one of my Birthday surprises was to do a sky dive! I think that Gary (Juice) was hoping I would say I didn’t want to do it so he didn’t have to! However, I know I would have really regretted it if I had said no so we done a 3 mile sky dive over the Nevada desert, (2miles of which we free fell for 60 seconds) it was probably the best experience of my life but also probably the scariest!
You have worn some great outfits while playing in the past; will you be joining in the Halloween theme on the night and got anything special planned?
I haven’t got anything special planned yet but it would be rude not to join in on the theme so I will see what I can dig out of the wardrobe!
You recently played at the Infinity in Kiel, Germany, how was that for you?
This gig was amazing! I got booked for it off the back of Defqon 1 so that was quite an achievement in its own! You really do get treated like royalty abroad and me and the lovely Claire Contagious got put up in this amazing manor house where we had a gorgeous A La Carte dinner! The event was rocking, they had about 3700 people there and they were all ready to party! (So much so that the event went on till 9am and the after party just began when I was on the way home!) The set was received very well and I was told that a lot of people had come to see me following my set from Defqon. Unfortunately I was full of flu so we decided to go back to the hotel about 5am only to find that a wedding party which had taken place that night was still going! I felt rather ashamed that I had been out-partied by a load of wedding goers!
Do you have any producing plans?
I recently came out of the studio with the MEGA talented MDA & Spherical. We came up with 2 wicked tracks which are going down really well! These are both being released on my first EP on Masif, I am hoping to get back in the studio once more before Christmas so I can get another done for the EP and get it released ASAP!
Now for some fun questions,
Jelly or Ice Cream? Jelly
Beer or Wine? Depending on my mood but I would say wine
Jam or Honey? Jam
Snakes or spiders? I hate spiders so snakes
Where can we next hear you play after HDS?
The week after HDS I am playing for Bionic in Newport, and the week after that I will be making another trip over to Ireland for TFI Friday. You can see my full diary on my website, visit djfrisky.com to check out all things Frisky! xxxx
