This article is about Summit @ Hidden in London (UK), Sat 04 Apr
With Summit drawing closer, the stage is set for the Bootek 4 deck showcase. The Bootek label in itself has made itself somewhat of a collectable series over the last few years, and it seems as though there's no stopping it. Taking some of the most recogniseable dance tunes and iconic samples, and turning them into thumping techno anthems. Gaining support from the likes of the big DJ's such as Eddie Halliwell and Judge Jules on occasion, the tunes are a great addition to any DJ's arsenal. However, the Bootek 4 deck showcase is a spectacle all in itself. Taking 4 CDJ's and a Pioneer DJM800, and add to it one hour and over 30 tracks, it's a full on frenzy hour of madness that has had main room dance floors packed to the rafters. We caught up with Bootek to explore a bit more about the label, and find out what new things lay awaiting us for this weekend's show at Hidden.
For all the people out there who haven't had a chance to see you before how would you describe the Bootek sound?
Party Techno, ranging from groovier numbers to full on shranz , with loads of familiar samples , which helps to make the music more accessable. I’d describe the dj set as 2 many dj’s meets techno with lots of chopping mash up’s and generally big tunes dropping left right and centre!
At Summit we have one of the broadest music policies in the dance scene today and are dedicated to showcasing new and fresh talent. How important do you think smaller nights like Summit are to the scene?
I think its crucial that’s there’s always a mix of smaller nights along with the bigger events, it gives a lot of new talent the chance to shine through which you wouldn’t see booked at a big festival. I also love the intimate atmosphere smaller nights can create especially at Hidden!
Are any special new mixes you have in store for the night or will we just have to wait and see?
Oh yes, there a few I’m really excited about at the moment! new remix of prodigy’s – Omen that has been smashing it lately , a mix of Daft Punk’s Around the World’ which has been getting a hammering of Judge Jules recently and finally a spanking new remix of MGMT Kid’s am putting the final touches to for Bootek 39.
As somewhat of a DJ myself I find two decks more than enough to cope with at a time. Bootek is called a 4 deck showcase. How on earth do you make it all work?
Lots of time, preparation and editing tracks so they fit better making sure track several tracks can sit ontop of each other in key and allow different elements to comes through in the mix. It can take a couple of months to put a full set together and it wastes a hell of a lot of cd’s burning edits and changing bits about.
For those that can't wait for April 4, Is there anywhere that clubbers can get a taster of the showcase?
On my portal I have a mix available and that also links back to my dsi group where you can hear all of the mixes and samples of forthcoming Bootek tracks
As Bootek you are a global artist . What countries have you played so far and where is next on the agenda?
S far I’ve only been out to Holland for Dance Valley, Japan & South Korea along with lots of U.K and Ireland dates, in general I think the Japanese were the most responsive as they always love tracks they recognise and the Hard tekk sounds is really big out there at the moment with Yoji, Nish & Remo-con helping to push it through.
With all the globe trotting do you fly economy, business or first class?
Haha I wish it was anything but economy, all I can say is thanks god for valium on long flights!
Bootek broke into the scene at the legendary Tidy Weekender around 12 months ago. How many tracks have you released so far and how many more are in the pipeline?
We are now up to Bootek 37 which is hitting the shops now so 74 tracks have hit the shops now and there are loads more planned I don’t have any intention of slowing down as I never run out of idea’s for Bootek as you can pretty much remix any genre there are no rules!
Your tracks are available to buy on cd single from www.tranzlation.dj. What are your top 5 Bootek releases available on there at the moment ?
I think my top 5 from the Bootek series that are out to buy will have to be
Bootek 7 A – Chase The Sun Remix tranzlation.dj
Bootek 30 B – Injected with a Poison tranzlation.dj
Bootek 16 A – Raining Down tranzlation.dj
Bootek 28 B– Insomnia tranzlation.dj
Bootek 8 B – Sweet Harmony tranzlation.dj
What would you be doing if you weren't making music?
I would be using my degree sat in a lab doing very boring things and at weekend’s
Being a DJ and producer must be hectic! What do you do to unwind?
Just the usual really watching dvd’s, playing on the xbox and chilling with my lovely girlfriend (I’ve got to say that as she will read this haha)
I love applewood smoked cheddar. What's you favourite cheese?
It’s all about mature chedder the stronger the better!
Any words of wisdom for us or anything you want to plug before you go?
Make sure you get down to Summit on the 4th April and check out my portal for more information www.bootekdjs.com
