This article is about Hidden Core "The Launch & Gordy's Birthday" @ Hidden in London (UK), Sat 11 Jul
With the eagerly anticipated imminent launch of London’s new Hardcore night, Hidden Core, only days away we caught up with one of the headliners and a legend on the scene, Sharkey! Tickets for Hidden Core have been selling like hot cakes as the word has been rapidly spreading in the rave scene about this exciting new event to be held in the capital! Here is what the Bonkers Team Rave DJ, MC and producer has to say about things!
1) How did you get into the music scene?
My 1st Official booking was in Torquay in 1992. I was MCing for a DJ called Worm who had been playing for fantazia and Vision. Scorpio was on the line up as well. It was slow going until I hooked up with Druid and started MCing for him a year later. Then it all kicked off for me at rhythm station in Aldershot. One of the 1st big bookings I got was at Dance Paradise and Dreamscape then the rest is history!
2) What would be your dream Hardcore line up?
It would be a mixed bag but if I had the money this would be my perfect Freeformation line up:
Sharkey (of course) Brisk & Ham Arkitech & Darwin Marc Smith Kevin Energy Mark E.G Gammer Recon Pendulum Live Nicky Blackmarket (Old School) Scorpio & Producer
MC's Sharkey, MC MC, Odyssey, Ribbz, Whizzkid
3) If you could build a club where would it be and why?
It would be just down the road from my house so I wouldn't have to travel anywhere. It would be a superclub and there would be a tunnel linking it up to my house so I can go straight home afterwards. In fact.......get me some bricks and a shovel!
4) Vinyl or CDs?
Either it does not bother me as long as I do my job!
5) You are known to nurture new producers in the scene - anyone we should be looking out for in the near future?
It's been harder than ever for younger producers to come through the scene. It's even harder for younger now then it was when I brought K-complex and A.M.S through. The recession does not help and there are fewer albums around for younger producers to shine. At the moment for me, even though I don’t class him as young and breakthrough, is Darwin. He is the bomb and firing out bagning choons on many levels. He is a class act!
6) Freeformation in May was the best event yet - what are the plans for Freeformation - can you tell us when the next one will be?
Shit...yeah hehehe. We got 1000 people through the door it was amazing our best party yet. Props up to everyone who attended that it was an amazing night. Our next one will probably be Xmas. We did not have one last year and it was disappointing for everyone. The tour has been going off really well after good nights in Bristol at the carling academy and at Hardcore Underground. We don’t want to over-saturate what we are doing with the brand so we think our focus will be on Christmas again this year. We have tour nights coming up in Doncaster on the 18th July and in Torquay on November 6th. Check out the fan pages on DSI and Facebook for more information on them.

7) You recently got back from HTID in the Sun - how was it? Any funny stories?
Sorry I was there jet lagged after touring America so I only saw the club or my bed. I did get drunk and tried to pull MC Storm and Wotsee when I was pissed even though I can’t remember and I didn’t think I was into ugly guy's (sorry carl & james hehe)
8) What advice would you give to any up and coming MCs?
Work on your voice and get the best control out of it and remember to be a good host and be yourself it's not all about rhymes!!
9) Where do you see Hardcore scene in 5 years?
They asked me the same question five years ago. We are still here and we are still gonna be here. What happens to the sound is up to the raver!
10) Do you have any forthcoming releases you want to tell us about?
My artist album is just about to hit the shelves so it's all about that at the moment it's nearly here!!
11) Over the years you have performed at some huge events - what are your 3 highlights?
Glastonbury in 1998 was the stuff dreams were made of! Summer Enchanted in 2003 was cosmic - in a field 6000 rocking it out Aussies with the sun shining! Hardcore Weekender 2005 - the 1st and best weekender for me!
12)What are your all time top 5 tunes?
Prodigy - Your love Orbital - Belfast Robert Wagner - Listen Carefully Pendulum - Slam Bodyslam - GBT
13) What other music do you listen to?
I'm really into Sigur Ros i think they are amazing and I have also been into Hotchip for the last couple of years. Spongle are good to chill out to, and really love infected mushroom as well
