This article is about We Love Bounce @ Hidden in London, Fri 24 Jul 2009
The hype surrounding the launch of London's new Bounce Night - We Love Bounce on Friday 24th July at the awrd winning Hidden has been extraordinary with the tickets selling faster than Speedy Gonzales on a pogo-stick! Headlining this bounce-tastic event is AWsum and Defiance Recordings main man Klubfiller! Here he lets us know what he’s all about by putting a donk on it for the We Love Bounce Crew!
How long have you been DJing?
I began DJing at the age of 12 just messing around on my mates decks, I can remember buying my first vinyl in an underground record shop in Liverpool, it was a remix of ‘Meet her at the Love Parade’, which I still have somewhere.
What DJ's inspired you to start DJing?
When starting out I wasn’t really sure on what styles were what. I just new if liked the sound of something then I liked it. So I can remember buying CDs from various DJs including Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontain, Tiesto and then being from North West I used to listen to local DJs on the radio including Lee Butler, Dave Graham, and Ian Redman.
But I still get very inspired by seeing current artists from various genres including deadmau5, Swedish house mafia, Andy Whitby and Gammer to name a few.
What was the first club you went to as a raver and what was it like?
The first proper club I went to was one in Liverpool called the 051 it was a pretty big club and was open every Friday and Saturday, I can remember going for the first time thinking I wouldn’t get in and when I did I was the best feeling in the world haha.
What was the best club you have ever been to and why?
For me the best club I have ever been to would have to be BCM in Majorca, I was there 2 summers ago and the freemasons were on I can still remember it to this day, just mind blowing. Also one of the nicest clubs in the UK for me has to be Gatecrasher in Birmingham, I played there for Frantic vs. B2T earlier this year and it was possibly one of the smartest looking clubs I have ever seen.
You are well known for your productions. What was the first track you had signed and do you still play it in your sets?
Well my first Hard Dance production was the Klubfiller remix of ‘U Ready’ on AWsum, and I get very very very fussy with production. I can never really listen to tracks I made 6 months ago as I think they sound dated or because I have listened to them that much. To answer the question I don’t play it out really, well not in a long while anyway, on that release it’s all about the ‘Matt Lee remix’ for me.
You have made tracks with a lot of the big names. Is there anyone you would like to work with next?
Yes I have been lucky enough to work with various people up to now within the Hard Dance scene, I would love to work with a few people, Kutski being one of them as I feel our 2 different styles could create something brilliant, also MDA & Spherical I’m a really big fan of their material. I have agreed to go into the studio with Techinkal the end of this month so that should be very interesting. I’m also hoping to have Cally Gage in the studio again soon too which I’m really looking forward to, always have a good laugh with Cally.
You are a key part of the AWsum family. What does AWsum mean to you?
AWsum has been growing and growing and it’s an honour to be a part of it. To me AWsum is not just a group of people who make music and work together, it’s a group of mates who love and believe in what they do. Because of this I can only seeing it growing bigger as times goes on.
What have been your top 3 tracks of summer 09?
Well I could name a lot more than 3, but here goes;
My top 3 of the summer
1 – Klubfiller & Matt Lee – Ordinary World 2 – Klubfiller feat. Stu Hughes – Last Forever 3 – Matt Lee – Chainsaw (Bounce)
I’ve heard u love Jack Daniels?! Should this always be on your Rider? Does it ever get you into trouble?
Jack Daniels is pretty much the only alcoholic drink I do, Beer makes me sleepy and I don’t really like vodka, so a nice JD and Coke always sets me up nicely for the night. You can now buy JD and Coke pre-mixed in a can, I saw them in Tesco the other day I was like a dream come true.
Although sometimes I forget when to stop drinking and I become the annoying drunk but to be honest I haven’t been in that situation for a while, pretty good for me.
Cally Gage or U? Who is more trouble at an AfterParty?
Cally and me trouble? Never!!!
Can you beat Andy Whitby at the XBox?
Well I am a Playstation 3 man and Andy has all 3 consoles (there’s always one isn’t there). So if we are playing FIFA then I have been known to beat him down to the ground. But Andy is good at games; we have a good laugh and relax when we play them.
You've played at Hidden before. What do you like about the venue?
I love playing at Hidden, as I had fond memories of my first set their, at AWsum Remixed playing Bounce Classics earlier this year. The atmosphere was just electric I can remember the first tune I dropped and it got a huge cheer when the bass line dropped. I have a video from my set here so you can see what it was like:
If we put together a Harder XI what position would you play and who would you pick to be Captain?
Hmm good question! If I was playing I would have to say attacking midfielder due to my favourite football player being Steven Gerrard, quite a simply answer but truthful. For the Captain it would have to be Mr Whitby, as he is good at managing a team (AWsum) and giving each individual the right advice. So the captaincy goes to Whitter’s.
Finish this sentence, 'We Love Bounce is...'
