JP & Jukesy Get Hookd!

This article is about hookd @ Hidden in London (UK), Sat 20 Jun 2009

We caught up with Hard House legends JP & Jukesy ahead of their debut set at Hook on Saturday 20th June to talk about their forthcoming album, Deprivation Recordings and events.

What or who inspires your music?

We love & play all forms of Hard House, from the tuff early house based stuff right through to the harder end material. We enjoy playing any time of the night so we take great inspiration from versatile DJs who can play the right music at the right time of night. There are far too many DJs around in this day & age who would play the same set at 10pm as they would at 3am! We have heard great reports about the progression of the music at hookd so we are really looking forward to be part of it.

How did you land the gig at hookd?

A big thanks must go out to a certain Pete Wardman, he put a good word in to Paul for us and he got in touch and asked if we could do a demo mix, so we got straight onto it and thankfully he loved it and the gig came off the back of that

Hookd is a launch night of your recent album “Hard House Music Volume 2”, what can we expect to hear on your album? Does it feature any other Hookd DJs?

The album is a two disc feature, one disc of all brand new material un-mixed and cd-j ready, the second disc is a rare mix from the legend that is Pete Wardman!! We are really happy to get Pete Involved in the label, you can see all the details below

What do you do other than music in your spare time?

JP - My Job takes up pretty much every spare moment i have, cant complain thou, love it
Jukesy – 2 Kids, my other half and studio time, not a spare second in sight most days!

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?

Hopefully still doing much of the same really, lots of gigs, the Deprivation brand still going well & of course Hard House still alive & kicking in its various forms.

Could there be a residency on the cards at hookd do you think?

Who knows what’s round the corner, we just can’t wait to play to the very energetic hookd crowd on June 20th and then take it from there!!

You guys also promote parties, what made you take the step from DJ's to Promoters?

We felt that within the Birmingham scene where we do our events @ the custard factory there was space for another event, we had been keen to do something there for a while and when the date come up we thought we would give it a shot with the help of Jimmy from Xstatic & James (Valex) from Nitrox records. We have our 5th event due for August time and we’re already full steam onto the promo for that one. It’s always good to have fingers in a few pies so to speak.

Trance has made it back on the club scene after a long break, do you see hard house becoming as popular as it once was in clubs?

Music generally works in cycles, we’re sick of older clubbers saying hard house is dead just because there tastes have changed. We still love hard house, we still have a passion for it as do many DJs, producers and clubbers. Hard house will come back around we’re sure of it!

You have played at Hidden before, what do you think of the venue for Hard Dance events?

Hidden is a great venue in London, we have played there more than other venue so we’re pretty familiar with the surroundings so to speak. The club has a great underground feel to it and each of the rooms has its own sort of personal feel to it. I think the last time we were down the club had a great layout, with each room focusing on a different styles of harder music and it seemed to work very well as each room had a large amount of people in..Great sound system and lighting too which always helps in this industry.

Who else are you looking forward to hear play on 20th June?

Andy Farley and Ian M obviously but Ross Homson has been making some great sounds recently so will be good to check him out!

Thanks for your time guys - see you at Hookd on Saturday 20th June.
