Anyone that claims New Year Eve is an overrated, over priced anticlimax has a fair point. But at the same time, they probably haven’t been to my little club night, Bingo. At £20 for a London club on New Years Eve and a DJ line-up of has-beens and never-weres, Bingo can hardly claim to be overpriced or overrated. As for the climax? The Bingo ball’s in your court for that one. In the meantime here’s the story so far…
In 2003, Bingo reclaimed a Soho stripclub and put on a punch fuelled orgie that one day will be noted by historians as the night human evolution was put back several thousand years.
In 2004, Bingo took to the Thames, filling a dilapidated old barge with 200 nutbags. We fitted the kind of sound system normally reserved for interplanetary communication and booked the kind of DJs normally reserved for a ‘green-card wedding’ reception. The Thames’ tide has yet to return.
In 2005 we generated so much energy from our first double dance-floored event we didn’t just blow the bar’s fuses, we blacked out the entire borough of Camden. Woopsie!
And so to 2006. We busy badgers behind Bingo have spent the last year hunting for the right venue for yet another large dollop of end of year nonsense. The goods news is, we’ve found it. The bad news is – we’ve already sold over 100 tickets before we’ve even announced it. This means we’ve only got 295 tickets left as of now.
Want one yourself? Here’s all you need to know:
What is it?
Bingo NYE
Where is it?
Industry, 1 Curtain Road, Shoreditch, London EC2
What’s Industry?
It’s a double floored Shoreditch gaff with a big swanky bar upstairs and a grubby little club downstairs. Perfect for both lording it up or making a mess of yourself.
Can I see it?
Yeah, go to www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pQmRVTsfmY for a slightly clumsy 30 second video we put together or check out www.industryec2.com for their pretty photos.
What music will there be?
Upstairs will be house, funk, breaks and party stuff. Downstairs will be dirty house, wanky electro and noncey techno.
Who’s DJing?
Our semi-pro DJ mates. We WON’T be paying them with coke again this year so hopefully the part timers will be able to string two mixes together.
How do I get tickets?
As with all Bingo NYE nights this is a private party for our friends and their friends. To prevent overselling the event we’re running a paying guestlist which means if you’re name is not to us before the 400 tickets go we cannot let you in. All names must be emailed to me and confirmed before Dec 22nd although we reckon it will sell out before that date so if you’re keen please let us know yours and your friends names pronto.
How much is it?
£20 on the door, but pay us before Dec 22nd and its £15.
How do I get there?
The closest two tube stations are Old Street (Northern Line) or Liverpool Street (Central, Hamersmith+City, Metropolitan, Circle Line).
From Old Street tube take Exit 4 and head left down City Road. After 4mins, (6mins in heels) turn left down Worship Street. Curtain Road is on the left after 3mins.
From Liverpool Street, take the escalators to leave the Liverpool Street station then turn left. After 5mins (7mins in heels) turn left down Worship Street, then Curtain Road is on your right after 3mins.
Hang on, Curtain Road, off Old Street? Isn’t that the one with 333 at the end?
Yeah but it’s not at the Old Street end. It’s right at the other end of Curtain Road. The City Road walk is much quicker.
What time’s it start?
We’ll be open from 7pm but the music starts at 8pm. Come down early – and get boozy for the bells. In the bar we’ll have a casino with champagne prizes for early birds. Get us.
Is there anywhere near by to go for a drink first?
Did you not read the above? Open from 7pm? Roulette? Swanky cocktails? Who needs anywhere else?
Is there last entry again?
Yeah, we’re locking the doors at 11pm so please aim to get to us before then. It’s NYE remember so we’d like everyone to be together and ‘inebriated’ for midnight not queuing outside or waiting to put their coat in. Get to us at 11.01 and it’ll be a long painful walk to Aquarium.
When is it?
What New Years Eve? Dec 31st, retard. It’s on a Sunday this year if that’s what you meant.
What time does it go on til?
We’ve got the venue til 6am and will programme music til then but if people are still drinking and we haven’t completely trashed the place we’ll get another hour so will continue the tunes til 7am.
Is there a dress code?
Wear what you like. Lots of people have already asked us if they can come in fancy dress to which we’ve said by all means, although this isn’t actually a fancy dress party. It’s totally up top you. We’ll have a dressing up box or something on the night too so keep your eyes peeled. Plus there will of course be a man in a giant badger suit. Please don’t encourage him.
Is there a cloakroom?
Yeah, it’s a quid an item.
Hmmm, swanky London bar? NYE? Bet the drinks are gonna be pricey then?
Its £3.20 for a beer, £3 a shot. About average.
Am I gonna get strip searched as I walk in?
There will be security obviously but we doubt they’ll be wearing rubber gloves.
Can I get a hotel?
Yeah, there’s the Holiday Inn Express on Old Street although it might be easier and cheaper to get a B+B. There are plenty around the Tufnell Park area and that’s only six stops away on the Northern Line. We had a quick ring round and you can get a room and breckie for about £40. Get on Google.
Will the tube be running on NYE?
Not only will it be running, it will be free. Nat West or someone are sponsoring it so thank them. Saying that, Bacardi or someone sponsored it last year and the tube drivers all ended up striking anyway. Morons.
