This article is about Inhale @ Inigo Bar in London (UK), Fri 17 Oct 2008
Good day to you, Dan Kahuna. How’s life?
ok to good.
Looking forward to Inhale @ Inigo on the 17th? Yes.
Have you been playing out in London much recently? Ready for the Inhale Massive? I’m thinking we might get some little signs ready to hold up while you’re playing – like they used to do with those damn ‘TUNE!’ signs. What do you want them to say?
'Have you got any katy perry?'
From a research point of view, it’s almost impossible to get any personal info on you. Is that on purpose?
Nope. Or maybe yes.
I pretty much knew Jon Carter’s inside leg measurements by the time I was done with him... lol.
Because of this lack of profile, I am now going to ask you a series of personal questions. Please be frank and open with Auntie Inhale:
i) Where and when were you born?
Leeds, the fall of 71.
ii) What is your first memory?
Mum dropping me on the ASDA carpark in Leeds.
iii) Did you enjoy your school years? Were you cool or a geek?
I was a geek till 11, then just off the rails a bit. Pretty geeky. I guess I was an allrounder. Came first in my year at Maths and English at 11 and played football for the school team. School was okay.
iv) Are you happy with the time at which you lost your virginity?
Yes
v) Did you go to uni? (as in further education – not the character out of Dungeons & Dragons...) What course did you do if so? Or was it the School of Life for young Dan?
Yes. Media and Communication. If only I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have done that course. vi) What are your favourite top 3 films of all time?
Cinema Paradiso, Dig and Dont Look Now.
vii) Did you always want to be a DJ? What would you have been if you hadn’t achieved that? Did you have any hero’s in early life?
I didnt always want to be a dj. Though I did some as a wee nipper. The signs were there! No heroes. no. viii) Who are your heroes’s now?
Still none.
ix) What’s your favourite thing to eat?
Take some spaghetti. Stick in in some fairly to very salty boiling water. Leave for 6 minutes. In another pan gently fry lots of garlic, some crushed chilles and a decent amount of olive oil with an optional bit of butter for the 6 minutes, then take a cup and a half of the spag salty water, throw it in with oily garlic. Give it a good stir - it should be boiling a bit. Drain the spag and add to oily galic pan. Cover and simmer untill the oily sauce has reduced to a lightly gravy like consistency, like good super noodles!, then serve with some parmesan. THAT is what i like!
x) What has been your greatest achievement to date?
Getting through typing that last answer.
xi) If you were given the 4 minute warning – what would you do with your last 4 minutes?
Heroin or dig.
xii) What do you want put on your gravestone?
My name.
Thank you Dan. I hope that wasn’t too emotional for you. Now – more work related questions:
Where did the name FC Kahuna come from?
Pulp Fiction
How did you meet Jon?
He used to live up the road from me as a kid aged 7.
Is there anything about him that annoys you?
He never gets angry.
What, in turn, is your most annoying habit do you think?
Quest for perfection.
Are you easy to work with?
Nope but much much better than you would think by that last answer.
If one of your friends could describe you in three words, what would they be?
On the lookout
Is it safe to say that things have been a little quiet on the old production side of things for a while? Is the next instalment going to be worth the wait, you little teaser...?
Yes. yes. yes!
Which is your favourite – Hayling or Machine Says Yes?
Nothing is wrong. You’ve played all over the world – what has been the highlight of your gigs so far?
Mexico DJing. Coachella playing live. But every gig, EVERY gig is good for one reason or another!
And what has been a real disappointment? You don’t have to name and shame – unless necessary.
Oh, apart from Blackpool.
If you could work with another artist (apart from Inhale – and we are artists) in the near future, who would it be?
This week Todd Rundgren, the Units, and Joe Meek.
Thank you sir – it has been very informative speaking with you! We look forward to seeing you at Inhale on the 17th!
