Interview with DJ/Producer: FUNKAGENDA

This article is about UK's House Mafia @ KOKO in London (UK), Sat 20 Dec 2008

How do you feel to have been chosen to represent the UK, as one of the UK's house mafia at KOKO on the 20th December?
Its a great honor. I have a lot of respect for the other guys on here with me too so its a double whammy :-)

This is the only dance music event at KOKO over Christmas, have you ever played there before? What do you think of the venue?
I had the pleasure of playing there last NYE, and it was the bomb. Looks great and has a brilliant vibe...

Tell us a little about how you started out in the house music industry?
Well I started off helping my Dads club act out with backing tracks and programming etc etc, but then I got a taste for the technology and started to produce myself. I worked in studios and record shops, anywhere that would keep me immersed in music. DJs kept coming into our shop and saying the wished they could make records, and I would say "Oh I can do that!" and they were like "Yeah right..." As it turned out, I CAN :-)

What's been the most successful track you've produced or remixed?

Gotta be "Man With The Red Face" this year. It won "Best Ibiza Track 2008" at the DJ Awards, and it was the fastest selling record EVER on Beatport! Thats not BAD going... :-)

What artists have you collaborated with over the years and who have you learnt the most from?
Well when I started out as an engineer I got to work with Trophy Twins, ATFC, Exacta and a few others, but my main collaborator has been Mark Knight. We have worked together now for nearly 3 years!
I learned a lot from him and I think he would say the same about me... Thats why we work well as a team I guess!

If you had to pick one area that you would work in, would it be DJing or producing?
Producing. Hands Down. No Question. I have been doing it for 17 Years now... I can't imagine doing anything else.

Have you got any special tracks or new releases you'll be playing for your fans on the 20th December?
Yeah I have a few new bits, but I don't wanna give too much away so that people are suprised :-)

What music do you listen to when not house?
EVERYTHING! At the moment the new Snow Patrol album, "Intimacy" by Bloc Party, a compilation of old Sarah Vaughn recordings and the Tribal Gathering 3 Disc set from 1996... Gayle San rocks...

DJing all over the world, has there been anywhere that really sticks out as somewhere you enjoy playing?
For the purposes of this interview lets say KOKO.....

What other challenges and goals have you set yourself for the years ahead?
I want to do an Essential Mix... I think that would just be amazing! I also want to do the London Marathon... but I am not a big runner so....

And finally, what time are you playing at KOKO?
02.30 -04.30
