EXCLUSIVE! CHRIS LAKE Interview - ahead of the HUGE "UK HOUSE MAFIA" event @ KOKO

This article is about UK HOUSE MAFIA @ KOKO in London (UK), Sat 07 Mar

So, what you been up to?
Hell, the last three months have been something of a blur. We’ve had ‘If You Knew’ out, got my first album ‘Crazy’ finished up and basically just had some fun touring new venues and countries. All good.

What's the first and last record you bought?
I’ve honestly no memory of the first record I ever bought. The last one I picked up was the new prodigy album, and personally I think I need to listen to it a few more times before I’m totally sold. It didn’t grip me as quickly as all their other material... I’m a huge fan.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
It would have to be watching 'changes' spread around the world, getting into so many peoples record bags, and working so well in clubs. Every now and again, and only when the time’s right, I’ll drop it into a set – the reaction from the crowd still sends shivers up my spine!

What's been the highlight of your private/non-professional life so far?
Marrying my lady, 100%

Any strange habits? (that you're willing to share with us?)
Hmmm, not too sure. Among my close friends and family, I am a lunatic. You'd have to ask someone else this question. They might be more honest about it!

What did you do for a living before DJing?
I was a postman! I did the lot. Sorting mail, delivering on foot, on a bike, in a van, working in the office, emptying boxes, post office collections, parcel deliveries, and business deliveries. Did it for 3 years, and to be honest, at the time I loved it.

Strangest thing you've experienced in a club/party whilst DJing?
Nothing really strange, just many many many great nights some VERY random people!

Have you ever come close to quitting DJing for any reason? Or just ending your pursuit to the top?
Deep question. When I first started out, I questioned if I could cope with all the travelling from Scotland. I got used to it though, and now I live in London it’s even easier. I'm also a much healthier person now and cope with it much much better. Regardless of any negatives, I've not come anywhere close to quitting. I’m grateful every day for being able to work and live in an industry that I love and respect.

Any advice for the young, aspiring DJs out there?
Find your own sound, your own quirk, and that is what is likely to get your noticed. Just follow your heart.

And finally, what time are you playing at KOKO on Sat?
02:30 - 04:00 !
