TORTURED SOUL ARE BACK AGAIN....THE BEST "LIVE" PERFORMERS IN HOUSE MUSIC- By Darren-Holland - Tue 11 Apr 2006 - 12 comments
Music : Soulful House and Deep House
TORTURED SOUL (LIVE) ALBUM RELEASE PARTY ----------------------------------------------------- Saturday 22nd April ----------------------- www.madamejojos.com Performing alongside Life & Soul's infamous residents DJ Spin Doctor & DJ Johnny Reckless Just what makes Madame Jo Jo’s and the Doctors Orders book a high profile act that could fill the venue ten times over? It’s all about our genuine love for quality music, Tortured Soul have been on our “we wish list” for far to long, the only down side to this gig will be the “left longing for more” cravings. This phenomenal 3-piece band is re-defining the shape of live dance music and wowing crowds worldwide with their take on the deep-house groove. As fully trained musicians have what it takes to keep a dance-floor moving with their 100% live soul driven sound, using no loops DJs or computers! Drummer & band originator John-Christian Urich explains, “Paramount to what we do is to make people dance. We play non-stop in a continuous set and we always work with the crowd. We might decide to play a part of a track and go off into another one; we might improvise for a while. It all depends on the reaction at a particular moment. We completely appreciate the whole DJ ethic.” Having left Cooly’s Hot Box John-Christian met Jason Kriveloff (Bass) & Ethan White (Keys) while all performing as Topaz. After a year or so of touring with and learning from funk legends James Brown & Maseo Parker the 3 of them split off from the rest of the group to explore what they might achieve as musicians, song writers & producers in their own right. In may 2001 they started to perform as Tortured Soul and with their sold 4/4 structure, infectious hooks and soaring melodies club crowds finally had a band they could groove to without loosing the energy or vibe of the night. From the start their recordings have been championed as house classics by the like of Danny Krivit, Blaze, Roger Sanchez, Giles Peterson and so many more. With remixes from the likes of DJ Spinna & Osunlade & live sets supporting acts as varied as the legendary Wailers & Maroon 5 it is little wonder word is spreading fast and it is only going to get better with the official European release of their debut LP “Introducing Tortured Soul” on R2 records. Event: Life & Soul: Tortured Soul Live Date: 22nd April 2006 Doors: 10 pm - 3.00 am Entrance: £10 in advance Tickets: Available NOW from Vinyl Junkies Soho. Paris@madamejojos.com
