This article is about GLOW BALL PRESENTS LONDONS LAST EVER OFFICIAL TONY DE VIT MEMORIAL @ Mass in London (UK), Sat 13 Sep 2008
Glow Ball is a mad, crazy and fun UV cyber rave where bright colours and smiles are part of the furnishings. Along with leading DJs, Glow Ball showcase some of the hottest new and unseen talent in the country; Nik Spiers is just one of the new faces that has launched an exciting DJ career from one of these mad parties, and since his debut has reached number one in the download charts and seen a flurry of bookings across the country. With the next event approaching, and as a special Tony De Vit memorial, there were a lot of people that had to be included. Nonetheless this was an opportunity to showcase a talented collective and unleash them into the hard dance world.
Together, they are a new hard dance act ready to seize your attention and make you dance like crazy during their sets, individually though we’ve met these guys before….
One of the highlights of 2007 for me was seeing Greg Brookman vs Nu Energy Collective LIVE at Frantic’s 10th Birthday. I’d seen the Nu-Energy Live PA plenty of times before and had never been disappointed, yet I was intrigued to see what they could do with Greg that they hadn’t previously done when they had teamed up to play at Alexandra Palace earlier in the year.
The secret weapon was Nick Sagar-house – alarm bells still not ringing? Remember the guy with the electric guitar and the crazy hair?!? Never before had I seen a hard dance crowd react the way it did, when the tunes we know and love were injected with a shot of Nirvana and other unexpected tunes, just writing this sends shivers down my spine as I think back to the moment when every arm went in the air and we all went mental.
Joined by Nick on stage was the other half of Greg’s PA - Craig aka Hypnosis, a renowned hard dance and hardcore DJ with one exceptional talent - scratching. I had never really been a fan of scratching with hard dance, it simply seemed to be a load of squeaks and squarks, out of key and randomly thrown in whenever the DJ saw fit - the day I heard Hypnosis, was the day my whole opinion changed.
Rehearsed and well executed, every squark and squeak simply united with the tune, and in many parts you would have thought that it was part of the track’s production, but don’t take my word for it – check out the video below.
When Greg Brookman packed up his bags and said goodbye to the hard dance world, his housemate, an experienced DJ who for months had listened and heard everything Nick and Craig could do, was the natural choice to step in and revive ALIVE. Having been involved in the scene for a number of years, and having already produced several tracks with Nick under the name Elements – Del Walsh made the team complete. The ALIVE PA was reborn, with a fresh new sound, as Elements ALIVE.
