MOVIDA CORONA UK FINAL - DJ WILSON WINS!!!
DJ WILSON IS THE MOVIDA CORONA UK CHAMPION 2006

After 50 Movida Corona parties across the UK, CORONA EXTRA’S UK leg of its World DJ Tournament came to a CRASHING CRESCENDO. Over 500 dj’s tried their luck in this year’s tournament but there could be only 1. DJ WILSON a.k.a. Steven Wilson coming out of SIN bar in WORCESTER clinched the UK Title in a spectacular finale to this years tournament.

The UK final was this year greeted by a capacity crowd at London’s world famous MINISTRY OF SOUND on Tuesday 17th October.
`
The evening began with an exclusive VIP reception at MESTIZO’s restaurant, where guests were treated to the finest Mexican cuisine and THE ULTIMATE PARTY BEER – CORONA EXTRA.

After dinner a speech was given by former Movida Corona WORLD Champion ANDY MILFORD. Andy gave the 8 finalists and the guests assembled an insight into what to expect during the night ahead. Lots were drawn to decide the running order for the DJ’s.

BENNY BLANCO - Arc Bar, Bristol
MATT McKINLEY – Opus, Manchester
RANIER WILSON – 52 Degrees North, Birmingham
MARTIN DOORLY – Cotton Factory, Huddersfield
DJ LORA – Edge bar, Soho, London
MAX HONEYMAN – Chy Bar, Newquay
ROLAND LONDON – EP Lounge, London
DJ WILSON – Sin, Worcester

After a special preview performance from Corona Extra’s Breakdancers (Gav, Chuck and Billy) the Finalist’s were whisked away onto a private “CORONA EXTRA – OPEN TOP BUS” to carry them across London to the Ministry of Sound, grabbing attention from cheering pedestrians along the route.

An already waiting crowd went wild as the Corona Extra bus turned the Corner into the Ministry of Sound. Hundreds of supporters had been queuing for some time to catch a glimpse of this year’s finalists. A “rock star” reception was waiting for all the DJ’s as they stepped off the bus and made their way through the crowd into the Ministry of Sound.

Fire eaters, jugglers, podium dancers, Giant Inflatable Corona Extra bottles, and pumping dance music greeted all the dj’s and guests, all this before entering the Ministry of Sound, as Corona Extra had put on a stunning welcoming show in front of the club that looked fabulous.

The Finalists were led through a special CORONA EXTRA VIP balloon tunnel into the club then into the MINISTRY OF SOUND’s VIP lounge to prepare for their performance.

Compere and host Andy Milford opened up proceedings by inviting the CORONA EXTRA breakdancers to take to the floor. Gav, Chuck and Billy gave a fantastic display of heart stopping acrobatic breakdancing.

The scene was set as the Ministry of Sound was superbly decorated wall to wall with MOVIDA CORONA banners, flags, balloons, hanging mobiles, inflatable bottles. A live VJ was on hand to ensure that video screens displayed Corona Extra imagery, promo reels and of course the MOVIDA CORONA countdown timer. To add to the atmosphere, glamorously masked and costumed CORONA EXTRA GIRLS danced on podiums and partied with the crowd all night, of whom were treated with hundreds of Corona Extra giveaways including CORONA EXTRA Flashing Pins, T-Shirts, CD’s etc..

So come the beginning of the competition, 2nd time around UK finalist BENNY BLANCO was first up with an impressive opening performance. For the next 2 hours each dj performed superb sets. Throughout, the crowd support was uncompromising always ecstatic and euphoric. Andy Milford comments “it was almost overwhelming for some, the adulation and euphoria was incredible”.

An exclusive performance followed from the NOWHEREMEN whose front man; singer JONATHEN ALLEN wowed the crowd with his fantastic vocal’s and soulful lyrics. While the MOVIDA CORONA judges presided CORONA EXTRA’s very own ANDY MILFORD took to the decks to throw down a crowd pleasing DJ set to keep everyone entertained whilst the contestant’s fate was being decided.

The announcement came. Andy Milford stepped up to announce the results; the packed Ministry of Sound fell silent.

3rd Place – BENNY BLANCO
2nd Place – MAX HONEYMAN

1ST PLACE – DJ WILSON

The reaction from the crowd reinforced the judge’s decision as “the place went nuts”. An emotional and overwhelmed DJ WILSON was “CARRIED” by the crowd to the DJ Booth to a once again rapturous reception by the audience.

DJ WILSON was awarded the MOVIDA CORONA winner plaque by UK Head of Corona Extra – ANGEL GARCIA GOMEZ.

Under a firework cascade and a confetti shower the newly crowned MOVIDA CORONA UK CHAMPION 2006 – DJ WILSON got back behind the decks to play the night out.

DJ Wilson has won (a large amount of) Corona Extra cases, ECLER NU05 dj mixer, CORONA EXTRA SUZUKI SCOOTER. To top it all as the UK Champion, Corona Extra will whisk DJ Wilson off and subject him to some serious “SUPERSTAR” treatment at the MOVIDA CORONA WORLD DJ FINAL in LUCERNE, SWITZERLAND where he will represent the UK on Thursday 30th November.

The Corona Extra UK team wish DJ WILSON THE VERY BEST OF LUCK!

Special Thanks goes to-

All the loyal supporters and the crowd that turned up to the UK FINAL. Many of them travelled across the country to join us, making an effort with special costumes and props (of note – the Huddersfield Crew with their pointy DOORLY hands). YOU ALL MADE IT THE ULTIMATE PARTY!!!
