Music : Drum and Bass
Alchemy was first conceived at Turnmills in November 2004 as a monthly Thursday night event. Back then Alchemy was known as Stealth, but even then the night had the foresight to go against the mainstream and put on drum n bass line-ups that we truly believed in and others weren’t thinking of. By July 2006, Stealth morphed into Primal as we made the transition from a small backroom to a 3 room Saturday night spectacle. The likes of Ca$h Money, Klashnekoff and Skinnyman brought some hip hop flavour to the floor, with Youngsta amongst our early dubstep guests. From there Primal transformed into Alchemy and its new residency of hosting all the big Bank Holiday Sunday sessions at Turnmills. This included the much-talked about party in August 2007 where LTJ Bukem’s Progression Sessions combined with Rein4orced Records and talent including Andy C, Goldie, Fabio, Grooverider, 4Hero, Marcus Intalex and Zinc to put on Alchemy’s biggest event to date. That said, in February 2008, Alchemy hosted the final ever deebee event at Turnmills and we repeated the August success with another killer night featuring old friends Rein4orced and Fabio’s Creative Source.
But back to the night at hand and our debut show at MOS, where we’ve again assembled a heavyweight line-up featuring the leading names on the underground scene, plus an exclusive showcase from one of the original labels that helped shape the evolution of jungle - No U Turn Records.
First up though the Primal Room. Look no further for a selection of the world’s finest drum n bass players, spinning the freshest cuts as we have Andy C, DJ Hype, Randall, Doc Scott and Friction at the controls. We've assembled a crack team of the leading MCs in support with GQ, Dynamite and Rage. The Liquid Lounge meanwhile, is a platform for the cream of the jazzier, deeper and soulful side of drum n bass. Radio 1’s Fabio is joined by A-Sides, Commix and DJ Flight with resident hosts Fats, DRS and Fozz on the mic. Archive is where we go back in time and Nico’s infamous No U Turn Records crew take centre stage rolling out tracks from 1992 til present. Artists representing No U Turn are Fierce, Break, Trace, Nico and Squire with MC’s Ryme Tyme and SP:MC. The last No U Turn night was over 10 years ago at The End way back in 1997 and it was a total sell-out... so prepare yourself for a sonic onslaught from one of the most highly respected labels in drum n bass. As if all this is wasn’t enough, we've entrusted the mighty Extended Players to host the top bar with their unique and eclectic blend of hip hop, funk, soul and party bangers!! Again the DJs need no introduction and feature Kiss 100’s MK, Harry Love (Kung Fu) and Mr Thing (Scratch Perverts) supported by men about town, the classy Ill Commotion DJs.
So now you know the drill... all roads lead to Elephant & Castle this Easter Bank Holiday Sunday as Alchemy embraces the next phase. Alchemy + Ministry = A Deadly Combination!! A limited number of Early Bird tickets priced £10 are now on sale.
