Meet and Greet LMP DJs Adam K and Dillon Koenig

We catch up with Adam K and Dillon Koenig - DJs, Producers and Promoters of Like Minded People Presents or LMP to its friends. Its been quite a year for the chaps, with sets at Azuli, Kissdafunk, Judgement Sundays Ibiza, Inside Out in Glasgow, Creamfields; joining forces at their Ministry of Sound monthly residency with Pete Tong’s Wonderland, Deep Dish’s Sci+Tek, Roger Sanchez’s Release Yourself, Dig Deeper and a slew of well supported, LMP DJ productions – one of which being included on the Ministry of Sound Underground Ibiza CD.

We touch base with the guys ahead of their forthcoming party that sees them taking over the newly refurbished and newly named Loft at Ministry of Sound with Sheffield’s Juvenile night holding court alongside Global Underground in the main room on Saturday 14th February.

Tomkat: Hi guys, thanks for stopping by. 2008 was crazy hectic for you with productions flying out, guest sets everywhere from Leeds to Glasgow via Ibiza, fresh productions, support from Kiss FM and BBC Introducing, not to mention the monthly parties at Ministry of Sound, days jobs and the monthly LMP Podcast (Free via iTunes), being so busy – what gets you up in the morning?

Dillon: My bloody alarm clock. (I hate that thing).

Adam: If you don't sleep you need never wake!

Tomkat: LMP Presents turned Three last year and has enjoyed success with its residencies at Ministry of Sound by being ahead of the curve by booking upfront and up and coming DJs and producers, everyone from Metripolis’ Tom Maddicott, Super Mal, Kieran Brindley, Damien Wilson and Sonny Wharton. So for those who are regulars at the LMP parties and those who have yet to head down, how did you meet and what made u want to start Like Minded People Presents – where did it all start?

Dillon: When I was working in PR I took an act in to Capital FM on to the show Adam was producing. Can't remember who. And then we met again at Homelands 2002. And then I bought him a coffee (1st and only time ill add!!) when I was originally trying to get into Radio production. We then discovered we were both DJs and ex-promoters and decided to start a night together so we could have a regular gig in London for our mates to come and hang out with some good tunes.

Tomkat: Looking forward and with the Obama effect taking hold across the pond, what are your Hopes and Dreams for LMP in 2009?

Adam: Well you can only give 100% and hope that somewhere along the line you get your turn. We want everyone who enjoys great music and good times to come to LMP parties and we are spreading the noise far and wide. We have our Ministry dates thru 2009 and we will also be residents in Leicester’s newest clubbing mecca Supa Fly, playing thru summer at the festivals in an Ice Cream van! That surely is living the dream! Oh and spinning at some great nights in the UK and Ibiza this summer. So we hope more and more like minded people join in the party and we hope to see our productions in top 10s all over the place!

Tomkat: Music wise, what best epitomizes your style.

Dillon: Argh. This is a horrible question. Basically, it's whatever I like. And that ranges from minimal to techno to tech house to big wonky bassy stuff.

Adam: Too easy... Tuff Jump up Techy Boom Fresh House!

Tomkat: With us firmly locked into the New Year, new sounds on the horizon and new artists and producers breaking through, who is your top tip of 2009?

Dillon: He's been around a while, but Funkagenda seems to hit the nail on the head with every production he makes.

Adam: Umm now there's a Q! Ill give u 3 names because equally you'll hear them all in 09…Nathan C, Ant Brooks, and Nick Supply.

Tomkat: Describe yourselves in three words or less?

Dillon: Lazy realist...

Adam: Energetic optimist!

Tomkat: What is your ‘if all else fails’ tune?

Dillon: Funkagenda - 'What the F***'. I've come to realise, a bit of blatant swearing in a track goes down a treat in a club!

Adam: I promise I’ve never had one...

Tomkat: What's your biggest influence?

Dillon: Music. All music. Whatever I hear, of whatever genre, influences how I feel and what I'm thinking. I love that about music.

Adam: Time! So deep!

Tomkat: What's your favourite gadget?

Dillon: iPhone. My life is much better for it. Sad, but true.

Adam: My metal Slinky! Fresh!

Tomkat: And finally, keeping it old school - what was the first record that you ever bought?

Dillon: This is a hard one. I can't actually remember the first ever piece of music I bought. It was probably something by Iron Maiden or Aerosmith. The first piece of vinyl I ever bought (even before I had decks) was Pete Heller - Big Love.

Adam: I always get this question but it’s a miss representation! Hehe. Eurythemics - Thorn in my side! 7inch vinyl! Now my 1st 12 inch was something like untidy dubs or something on Filtered!

Tomkat: Thanks for sparing us the time, look forward to LMP Presents Vs Juvenile with Global Underground on Saturday 14th February.

Dillon: See you then…

Adam: Boom!!
