K90 swaps his trancey pants for some disco trousers for Frantic's NYD Hard Disko

This article is about Frantic Present Hard Disko NYD 2009! @ Ministry of Sound in London (UK), Thu 01 Jan

Mark Doggett, aka K90, is responsible for some of the biggest hard trance anthems of all time - Breathe, Red Snapper & many more.

If you've ever been to a Heat or Frantic event you will have heard some of his productions rocking the main rooms, seen everyone with their hands in the air and big cheesey smiles on their faces.

If you fancy some festive trance action catch the man in action at Ministry of Sound on NYD, as Frantic bring hard beats back to the best club in the country.

We fired a few questions at him to get him in the mood...

Who’s your tip for the top in the hard dance scene?

It’s one of the guys that currently release on my label Dataless – SQ (a.k.a Nick Squires). This guy has a really big future ahead of him.

Which do you enjoy more – your DJ sets or your live sets?

Depends, if I’ve got lots of new material to play it would be live although I do enjoy the freedom of playing a DJ set.

How are you going to Disko up your usual set for NYD?

Who knows, depends how many drinks I have beforehand!

What’s your favourite non-club related past time?

I know it sounds weird but I’ve discovered golf recently and now I’m bloody addicted!

Golf geek and DJ! If I’m going to the bar, what would you like?

Ah, that’s very kind of you I’ll surprise everyone and say – “I’ll have a Kronenbourg please!”

What does it take for a new DJ to impress you? And what are your tips for any budding DJs?

I like a DJ/Producer to realise that there are no short cuts if you want to be successful and that only hard work and perseverance will get you where you want to go. My tip for any upcoming DJ/Producer would be to keep working hard and an opening will present itself.

It’s been a while since you played at Frantic – what are you looking forward to the most about getting back there?

I’ve met loads of people playing at Frantic over the years so I’m really looking forward to seeing some old faces as well as meeting some new ones.

What other sorts of music do you listen to, or is it all hard dance for you?

Nah, I listen to all sorts of music from Hard Dance to Trance, Electro, House right down to Classical music and movie soundtracks.

Can you describe your funky disko dance moves to us please?

I shake my assss!!!

Who else on the line up are you looking forward to seeing?

Everyone!

Very generous. You’ve always been very trance-influenced, what is it you prefer about hard trance to hard house?

Now, I’m probably gonna upset a few people here! For me, hard house never really seems to reinvent itself; it just comes back time after time with what seems like the same 20 records. It’s almost as if there’s a hard house making kit with the same loops, stabs and vocal samples that everybody uses! At least with trance you’ve got an infinite amount of melody and scale to play with so with one note change you’ve got a different feel.

Tell us a secret about yourself…

I grow my own vegetables!

What’s your favourite tune of all time?

Carte Blanche by Vera Cocha

What will you be doing on NYE?

Playing out somewhere with a beer in my hand!!!

Well we hope he's still sober enough to make it to Hard Disko! Catch his beer-drinking, ass-shaking, vegetable-growing antics at Ministry of Sound on NYD. It's only a couple of days away folks - for more info & to get tickets click the logo below!
