No Fluff allowed in the Fervor Frenzy!
Its always going to be a tough job persuading clubbers to venture into a credible night in London's West End. The area is normally dominated by the Mayfair 'set' pervading the upmarket chic bars or the Picadilly and Leicester Square cheesers out on the lash at the Hippodrome. You rarely see a funky house clubber out for a good stomp in this area.

Yes, there could have been more people there last night, but if a promotor thinks he's going to ram the place on the first night then his head is in the clouds. Building up a quality night takes real time and serious effort. I can see all promotors smiling as they read this as they know the fucking hard graft needed to build up a successful night.

But hey, this ones worth working at. I had an absolutely blinding night. The music from start to finish was spot on. The crowd were sexy, friendly and up for it. The venue was usual Mayfair chic, eclectic, sometimes eccentric, with a fairly expensive bar. Drinks prices tailored to the Mayfair crowd are not often popular with clubbers who are out so much that their wallets are usually looking pretty empty at this time of the month!

As we arrived the room was filled with chunky, funky beats as Lloyd Moore warmed the room up. Toward the end of his set, we began to hear the tougher element enter the foray as tracks such as Bitch were dropped. Tony P took over at 10.30 and treated us to his usual seamless mix of tough, energetic funky house. This guy is good. Richie La Rue and Si Barber took control at midnight. It was great to see these two back playing together again and their relaxed approach makes it look like they could do this in their sleep! They started to really work the crowd, building from tough and twisted right into some bouncing dirty house at the latter end of their set.

Now the real star of the night was Lovechild (Tim Hopgood). This guy is a close friend but I want you to to please disregard this as the review is the honest truth. From his first tune he set the standard for the rest of his set. Id describe his style as Tough, Funky and Fun. Every tune had the funkiest basslines, the toughest attitude yet they all made you want to smile and fucking have it. Definetly Tough, Funky and Fun. His tune selection and order of play was just spot on. He took it away from the dirtier stuff that Richie and Si finished on, but retained the tough credibility. The back end of his set was peppered with banging, tough, funky as fuck house. People were asking who he was, as this guy was creating a storm. I usually expect Tim to fuck up one or two mixes during his set - I dont mean that in a harsh way at all, its just what u would expect from an 18 year old starting out in the industry. But that set, apart from one or two dropped beats which were unnoticeable if you werent listening out for it, was brilliantly mixed, and perfectly selected and arranged for the crowd and the night.

Lovechild really came into his own last night. This guy will go far.

Mike Mackeeg took over the decks at 2. This guy is currently building a great name for himself on the scene and didnt dissappoint last night. He started off a little slow but soon picked it up and the back end of the set was absolutely banging.

The music last night was perfect. The crowd were great. With more promotion this night will succeed. Id suggest looking into to different venues though.

Fervor. FUCK ON!
