EXCLUSIVE: Love-tec Interview With MUTINY!!!

This article is about LOVE-TEC feat Mutiny @ Pacha in London (UK), Fri 17 Aug 2007

The two members of Mutiny have had a number of hugely-successful guises through the years: Aficioncados, Prophets Of Sound, Planets, Tic Tac Toe, A.D.D and the old-skool-tastic, Helicopter. But it's through their present guise that they are enjoying the fruits of their current success. Presenting to you the ever-evolving and ever-popular, Mutiny...

Where did the name 'Mutiny' come from?

ROB: Well, Simon from Basement Jaxx came up with the name when Dyl and him worked together.

DYLAN: That's right. I came up with the name whilst working with Simon Ratcliffe from Basement Jaxx. We did an E.P. on Sunflower Records called 'The Give' and named the act 'Mutiny'. Rob and I just took up the mantle when we started working together about 8 or 9 years ago.

What did you do to celebrate your last birthday?

ROB: I went to Brighton with a girlfriend. Then visited my parents - as my mother's birthday is the same as mine! Then I had some food with friends...

DYLAN: I actually had an all-day picnic in the park next to my house and got totally fed.... And then hammered all day and night!!!

When was that?

ROB: May the 12th.

DYLAN: The 3rd of June and, no, you're not getting my age!!!

And, how young does that make you?! Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!

ROB: Well I'm 33 and you can find out from Dyl, his age!!!

DYLAN: As young as the girl I'm squeezing!!!

What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you in a club?

ROB: Hmm... That's difficult. What is weird? I'd say...

DYLAN: Being asked in Iceland to appear rising from below the stage in a makeshift swimming pool with goggles and a pair of speedos. We said: "NO!"

What's the best night out you've ever had?

ROB: I had a gig in Mauritius. Say no more!!!

DYLAN: That's stupid that question... Because the best ones I can't remember!!!

What's the worst gig you've ever had?

ROB: Played in a cereal bowl at a festival and passed out!!!

DYLAN: It's never been that bad!! Maybe playing with no monitors and no crowd in a bar on Chistmas Eve in London and not getting paid either!!!

What happened the last time you embarrassed yourself?

ROB: My temperature rose...

DYLAN: I embarrassed the person that embarrassed me!!

What can't you live without?

ROB: Love.

DYLAN: Water!!!

Before you were a DJ, what was the worst job you ever had?

ROB: I was a debt collector.

DYLAN: A porter in Dulwich Hospital. I saw some horrible things.

What was the last record you bought?

ROB: 'Munde Zu Munde' by Audion. Bad!!!

DYLAN: 'The Organ Grinder' by Trevor Loveys on Dubsided Records.

Who are your musical influences?

ROB: Lots. From David Bowie to Hank Shocklee to Prince to people!!!

DYLAN: The Beatles, Eddie Harris, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Joe Dulce...(!)

Is there anything unusual about you that we should know?

ROB: Dentophobia (a fear of dentists!)

DYLAN: I am a Nordic God!!!

If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?

ROB: The film studio of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Hmm, chocolate....

DYLAN: I'd go back to watch the Brazillian 1970 World Cup football team

And finally, what tunes have lodged themselves in yourrecord box and refuse to leave?

ROB: Daft Punk's LP, 'Homework'.

DYLAN: Tori Amos - 'Professional Widow' (Armand Van Helden remix) FOR EVER!!

Thanks guys, we look forward to welcoming you to August's instalment of Love-tec at Pacha....
