This article is about Plush Dafunk Xmas Party @ Pacha in London, Sat 01 Dec 2007
It's been a while since we last caught up with you guys, over the last year you've certainly grown in stature becoming one of the biggest names in house music. The star studded line-up of artist you've recently remixed for is pretty awesome to say the least. So what's new with you guys in terms of production right now?
FM. We have just submitted 4 tracks for beyonces new album, hopefully she will like one of them. We've done a remix of " work" for kelly rowland, which is a bit different for us, as it slows down in the middle and goes into an RnB flavoured track, which then speeds up again to house tempo. we are currently working on a remix of Gusto - "discos revenge". This should be ready to spin at our next Plush Dafunk show.
Some have said your remixes of Beyonce's "Deja Vu" & "Ring The Alarm" have kept her career alive, how did it feel to hear all the major radio stations giving air time to your remixes over the originals?
FM. Its a great feeling,Tingles down the spine stuff, but everyones expectancy has got higher with this success, including our own. Hopefully we can keep it up
And how are you dealing with all the fame from all that success ;) ?
FM. I suppose we dont really see that side of things, we tend to be more in the background, only coming forward to deejay and a few interviews. Our current single uninvited, has seen Bailey our singer stopped in the streets and have people ask for autographs, being recognised constantly, Thats the beauty of our side of things you can stay in the background and have a relativley normal life
Who would you most like to remix a track for next?
James I've has always wanted to remix for Annie Lennox Russle I've been stalking George Michael for a mix
Over the last year the sound has defiantly evolved and become more pumping, has the current market had an effected your production style?
FM. Everyone is influenced by what is going on around them. The whole one note electro movement has certainly become more popular than funky house (which was our thing). We have tried to take the best out of both and make it work. The harder edged basslines, but still keeping it musical, with strings, pianos and guitars. We are not about to go over to the darkside, someones got to keep the faith alive!!
Hear hear. So what artists out there are floating ya boat at the moment?
FM. Production wise, timberland, great beats, great ideas. There are a few consistant house producers around, Axwell, fedde le grand , Deadmau5. I am finding it harder to find good house records that work in our sets though. Maybe everyone else has gone over to the darkside , maybe its time to retire. ha ha
Hear hear! So with the electro house genera and many genera’s before it, producers seem to think that it's another opportunity for them to regurgitate the same hooks, piano rifts & vocals over and over again. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
FM. Everything good in music gets regurgitated, sometimes well, but more often than not badly. The bad gets forgotten very easily, i think?
On your globe trotting dj expeditions what has been you favourite gig this year and why?
FM. Our favourite gig for this year was a festival on The Island of Pag in Croatia. We are doing the same event next year. The party went on for 3 days and our set was on the beach playing while the sun came up on our backs.
Your finally back at Plush Dafunk's Xmas party at Pacha headlining the Ballroom, what surprises have you got in store?
FM. It wouldn't be a surprise now would it?
What is it for you guys that makes the night special and keeps you coming back?
FM. Good friendly atmosphere and an open minded crowd.
What’s your favourite DJing beverage to get you in the mood?
FM. Gold Tequila , cinnemon, and fresh orange
I'm more that sure we can sort that one for you chaps!!
