The Legend COCO LOCO @ SPACE THIS SATURDAY

Space & DIRTYdubbin present the legend Coco Loco for one night only...
Space Pacha 12th April 10-5am

COCO LOCO
Drawing inspiration from DJ superstars such as Danny Tenaglia, Sasha and Deep Dish, he developed an ear for the underground House sound, yet still maintains a healthy love for rock icons such as Hendrix, Pearl Jam and even the harder sounds of System of a Down and Korn. His initial venture into the world of Dance saw High Society staging events in exotic locations such as a crocodile farm, a fishing cabin and even a floating restaurant. Always an innovator and looking to further his career, Coco Loco then set his sights on taking his formula to a larger market where his style of music would find greater exposure, thus his move to Durban.

It wasn’t long after that he firmly established himself on the South African DJ circuit. Till this day, one of his proudest achievements came in September 2002 when he brought the sensational Funkstar Deluxe (Denmark) to Durban. Coco Loco took the dancefloor to the streets around the famous SKYYBAR nightclub and shook a crowd of 3500 people; an event that has certainly made a mark in Durban’s clubbing history.

Soon after that he was staging some of the finest events the city had ever seen. These included some mammoth parties such as ‘Durban Underground’, ‘Superstar DJ’ and ‘Tim Deluxe 2004’ as well as smaller club-based events aimed at the niche Deep House market like ‘Diamond Knights’, ‘Boy & Girl Next Door’ and ‘Yishi Fonk’. Apart from these efforts he has also had the privilege to DJ alongside famous International names such as DJ Rasoul and Kaskade (San Francisco), Milk & Sugar (Germany), Funkstar Deluxe (Denmark), Tim Deluxe (U.K), Erhan Sengenc (Turkey), Lawnchair Generals (Seattle), DJ Sammy (Spain), Tom Neville (M.O.S), Brandon Block (UK), Jason Hodges (Canada), Jake Childs (USA), Sexual Chocolate (USA) and recently headlined with Stefane Pompougnac from Hotel Costes (Paris) in JHB at a massive “Taboo” rooftop party. As if these names weren’t enough to confirm his rising star status, Coco Loco was asked to play the closing set at the Nelson Mandela Aids Benefit concert in Johannesburg in 2004 on a stage which featured such top musical acts as Danni Minogue, the Human League and Boogie Pimps.

2005 and 2006 saw him travel monthly all over South Africa as well as DJ stints in Mauritius, Istanbul and London. Earning interest from the media, Coco Loco’s recent coverage includes an appearance on the cover of (and exclusive interview in) local music magazine BPM (December 2006), features in local magazine and online publications including; Heat, Locally Whipped, SL, Top Billing, Zoo, and MrSpencer nightlife website; interviews and DJ sets on ETV, 5FM, Metro fm, Yfm, Good Hope fm and East Coast Radio.

Having made his mark on the underground scene, he has gone on to release two mix CD’s on the well respected USM Record Label. The first; ‘Deeper Sound of Coco Loco – Deep Trouble, released in 2005’ and the second, released in 2006, ‘Deeper Sound of Coco Loco – Fly By Night’. Both discs feature Coco displaying a different style in the ‘Deep House’ genre. The first one delivers a smooth ‘pre party starter’ vibe and the second presents a chunkier ‘late night dance-floor’ vibe. July 2007 has seen the release of his 3rd and final chapter in the series, “Deeper Sound of Coco Loco – Poolside Player” which he describes as being an after-party album with a dark minimal twist. With the world at his feet and his sights set on an international future, he will be touring all over South Africa to promote his latest offering as well as bookings in Mauritius, London, Ibiza and Australia, once more displaying his love for deep – or should that be deep love for – world-class House music.
