EXCLUSIVE: Pacha Beyond Interview With Deetron

This article is about Lost Souls presents... Deetron [Music Man] @ Pacha in London (UK), Fri 12 Sep 2008

Ahead of his Pacha Beyond, and indeed, Pacha London debut, we invite Music Man, Deetron, over from Switzerland for a night of heavenly music - completely cheese-free!!! Watch this baby run like clockwork!!! Enjoy.....

We all know you as Deetron, but what's your real name and where did Deetron come from?

My real name is Samuel Geiser. It's difficult to recall after all these years how I came up with the Deetron moniker, but actually I needed an alias for my first gig - so it just came
up while I was juggling words.

Where is Deetron from and what's the best thing about it?

He's from the peaceful and quiet city of Bern in the middle of Switzerland and that's the best thing about Bern, too. I really enjoy coming back here after the hustle and bustle of the big cities when I'm on tour during the weekends.

How did you get into house music? And what inspired you to produce/remix your first record?

When I was into Hip-Hop in the early 90's, a good friend of mine introduced me to early Hip-House stuff from the likes of Todd Terry and I was instantly hooked. This same friend had an Atari and a Juno 106 at home - that's how I got started with producing my own music.

What’s been the proudest moment in your professional life so far?

The release date of my debut album "Twisted", I would say. It was like giving birth to a baby... :-)

What productions / releases have you got coming up?

The last single from the album "Twisted", called "Let's Get Over It", is out just this week on Music Man with remixes by Henrik Schwarz, Llorca and Marcel Dettmann.

What did you do for your last birthday and when was your birthday?

We threw a party in Bern and invited Redshape and Marcel Dettman to play. It was just a few weeks back, I'm a Leo.

And, how young does that make you?!?!

Ouch, touchy question, next one please.

What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you in a club?

Too many to mention - but the most recent one I remember, was when I arrived to a club and no Decks nor CD-Players were connected in the middle of the night - as I found out later on, everybody else was playing live sets!!!

What's the best night out you've ever had?

I am not sure if it was the best night out ever, but Erykah Badu and Jamie Lidell at Montreux Jazz this year were absolutely amazing.

So, what's your favourite record of all time?

Coltrane - "My Favourite Things".

What can't you live without?

My wife and music.

Before you were a DJ, what was the worst job you’d ever had?

During the High School holidays, I was supposed to earn my first own money with working for a meatpacking company, which was not very nice. I quit after the first break.

What was the last record you bought?

Soundstream 004.

Who or what are your musical influences?

Again, too many to mention. But ranging from Stevie Wonder over George Clinton and Carl Craig to Flying Lotus and Larry Heard....

If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?

To the year 2200. I'm just curious.

What tunes have lodged themselves in your record box/CD bag and refuse to leave?

Aril Brikha - "Groove La Chord"
69 - "Filter King"
Fingers Inc. - "Can You Feel It"

What do you make of the new concept for Pacha Beyond?

I think it sounds VERY interesting and am curious to see how it evolves.

And, finally, what can we expect of you ahead of your set at Pacha Beyond with Lost Souls?

Always a difficult question for me to answer since I don't like to limit myself to a certain thing but it would be great if you came down and checked it out.

We MIGHT just do that! Thanks, Deetron. You've been a fab interviewee and we can't wait for Friday night. For all you Deetron fiends, check out the links below for further info on this amazing guy.....
