Exclusive:: DDD's Simon Baker hits Pacha

This article is about Pacha Beyond Present Zombie's Revenge @ Pacha in London (UK), Fri 19 Sep 2008

Simon Baker is fast becoming a major player in the global electronic community. Working steadily through the ranks at 2020 Vision after producing his first single “The Lip Trick” in 2004 he has worked, fine-tuned and greatly improved his production skills gaining worldwide respect with a bang this year"

Simon has been collecting and playing records for over 15 years. A versatile and passionate DJ, he doesn't like pigeon holing his style. But his passion is for the finest underground, deep electronic house and techno music, represented by the releases on his superb INFANT RECORD label.

2007 was the year Simon's reputation sky rocketed, and became a major player on the worldwide dj circuit, while also holding down quality residencies at some of the UK's most acclaimed underground House nights, Asylum & Technique at The Warehouse Leeds, and DDD at The Key , London..

Simon scored his first hit in 2004 with his debut recording, released under his 'Liptrick' alias, which found it's way into the bags, and compilations of Tiefschwarz, Damian Lazarus, and Dan Ghenacia amongst others, and was signed to Ralph Lawson’s highly respected 2020 Vision label as part of an album deal.

These days simon is concentrating on solo material for various labels, including his new label, Infant Records. Infant is run in conjunction with 2020 Vision and the first release debuted Simon's solo sound. Entitled Simon Baker presents 'Footprints EP', it was launched at the Sonar Electronic Music Festival in June 2005. The reactions were tremendous, with Radio 1 plays as well as 4/5 in both DJ and IDJ magazine, amongst others. The label has since gone from strength to strength with more releases from Simon alongside Paul Woolford, Burnski, TG, Anthony Collins, Sian, Rekleiner, Jamie Jones and more.

In 2007 Playhouse Records spotted Simon's productions and signed him to a 3 single deal , first was his huge summer hit "PLASTIK". Last year also saw him releasing on quality labels such as 2020 Vision, Viva, KarateKlub, Infant and Connaisseur, to name but a few.

So what's in store for 2008? Other than a hectic worldwide dj schedule there will be remixes for Simian Mobile Disco and Radio Slave, while also releasing tracks with Cocoon, Leftroom, R&S Recordings and of course his own label Infant.

We caught up with him ahead of his trip to Pacha to play for DDD at Zombie's Revenge.......

Hows it going and what have you been up to this summer?

good thanks., been keeping busy with gigs, and tours of USA and Japan, whilst also knuckling down in the studio when i can.

Whats been your biggest record of the summer?

Probably the track i have done with Jamie Jones - Kaskazi. Due out about now on Get Physicals new digital label Get Digital (with some limited white labels doing the rounds also)

You have some of the biggest dj’s in the world playing your music. Whats that like?

Its taken me a long time to reach that goal. Its a great feeling i have to say, the time and effort feels like its paid off finally when you have names you looked up to years ago playing your music. Its definitely a good buzz.

So are you doing music full-time now, or do you still have a day job?

I have been full time for a few years now, although been through some tough times to get here.

What have you got coming up over the next few months production wise?

As previously mentioned, collaborations with Jamie Jones for Get Physical, also a remix just out on Rekids (Radioslave - Bell Clap Dance), A new EP with R&S Records, Leftroom and my label Infant amongst a few other remixes.

Who would you love to collaborate with?

Carl Craig would be my number one choice no question.

Where is your favourite place to play ?

Probably Romania or my home town Leeds.

Finally what can we expect from you at pacha in the DDD room this Friday?

I generally play across the board, from deep house to techno, but you can always expect a strong groove to keep the dance floor energy alive.

COME AND CHECK OUT SIMON BAKER ALONGSIDE GEDDES AND SIMON MORREL IN THE DDD ROOM AT PACHA THIS FRIDAY
