This article is about House Rules re-opens at Plan B w/ DJ LOTTIE & guests @ PLAN B in London (UK), Sat 07 Nov
It’s been over a year and half since you last played at House Rules, since then Plan B was gutted by a fire, but it’s back after a £1 million facelift, are you looking forward to road-testing the new soundsystem? Indeed I am! A fantastic soundsystem makes all the difference to a DJ and it gives you so much more scope sonically to give the best set possible.
What labels are you playing at the moment? There's so much exciting stuff around at the moment and the best productions seem to be in the techno department. Mouseville, Cocoon. Boys Noise and Turbo are all doing it for me at the moment but I also love Coco Machete and Gung Ho! which is where my next single (Dr. Strangelove - "Photograph") will be coming from.
Who are the emerging young DJs you’re championing? There's a fantastic DJ called Suze Rosser who I've played with in Jersey a few times and has now moved over to London. She's a favourite of mine, technically perfect and very discerning. I also love Ocelot, Serge Santiago and Jamie Jones, they've been around for a while but are destined for greatness!
How was your Ibiza season this year and which gigs really stood out for you? I really missed playing at Amnesia this year as that main room is heaven for me but my sets at Space were the best of the last 4 years I think. I played inside in the discoteca as well as the terrazza this year and it was mindblowing. I was on just before Grace Jones' exclusive set so the crowd was the biggest and best I've ever seen in there. I'm missing it already!
You’ve been fortunate enough to travel all over the world, which clubs and crowds have made an impact? Tenax in Florence was in a league of its own, a live venue as well as a big disco with a gorgeous, delicious wine bar very close to the booth, perfect! Vino aside though it is how I imagined Studio 54 was back in the day but with electronic music and loads of weird and wonderful people, fabulous. Poland is always reliable for a great party and I want to go back to Singapore soon because I've had so many great times there with such open minded people.
How would you say your music style has changed over the last decade? I was very "Housey" in the traditional way a decade ago but I can't play dated dance music (apart from the odd classic) as I need to be constantly excited by what I'm playing in order to play the best I can. The nature of dance music is that it constantly evolves, changing, experimenting and improving in quality along the way. I've been playing a much more electronic sound for the last 6 years because for me that's where all the really exciting sounds are at the moment.
