FERVOR PITCH
Walking down Old Street last Saturday night on my way to Playbar for FERVOR, I became a little apprehensive as my surroundings became gradually seedier. Having given promoter Kips some real stick for past venue choices for FERVOR, I really hoped he hadn't chosen another unsuitable home for this new electro night, and upon arriving at the venue, my concern deepened - the outside of the club matched its seedy surroundings.

However, as soon as I reached the door all doubts were dispersed. After being welcomed on the door by the stunning Madagascar, who efficiently ticked us off the list and ushered us into the lower club without hassle, we were then greeted by an already busy club, despite the night only being half an hour into its journey. The sounds of tough, and twisted house filled the room as Tricci Nicci warned the place up with her own no-nonsense attitude to house. The scene was set for a night of quality tough and electro beats. The club was a perfect size for the night, and a great shape too. A good sized dancefloor, leading on to a lowered area with sofas for mingling and chilling. The bar itself, although small, was never packed thanks too the efficiency and friendliness of its staff, and drinks very reasonable for central London. (Thanks especially to the barman who, when I asked for a glass of water as my mate was having an asthma attack, quickly gave me a bottle of cold water from the fridge for free). It was also for the first time in ages that I've been in a club where I could feel the coolness of all the air conditioning units all the way through the night, despite being a packed small club.

As the night filled up, the atmosphere never changed from its initially friendly vibe, and just got better as people were obviously really up for it. Lloyd Moore, followed by Mike Mackeeg, picked up a dancefloor already rocking from Nicci's set, and proceeded to destroy everyone with 2 sets of upfront filth, as well as our current favourite electro tracks.

Following on from Mike came the eagerly anticipated Lovechild. Fresh back from Ibiza, there were great expectations about this guy who got such a rapturous reaction to his set at the launch of FERVOR. Professional to the core, Lovechild came from his sick bed just to play his set. The FERVOR crowd were not disappointed as he set the place alight with his own unmistakable style of the toughest house with a credible funkiness running through every tune selection. By the end of his set people were screaming his name.

Headliners the Ninja Cowboys, who are whipping up a frenzy on the scene at the moment, followed on from Lovechild to play a 2 hour set. We know what to expect from these guys now, but they always set the room alight, with people dancing on any surface that could be found. Just look at the photos.

Every DJ was dogged by the quality of the soundsystem that night, with the needle jumping straight off the record several times per set. However, the professionalism of these DJs shone through as they just whacked the needle straight back on the same point and the room continued to rock. If the Playbar sorted out their soundsystem they could have a killer little venue on their hands.

'Dirty House, Sexy Style' is the FERVOR strapline, and with such a gorgeous well dressed crowd coupled with awesome tunage all night, its not wrong.

I had to be literally DRAGGED out of Fervor to go to a friend's birthday celebration @ Pacha at midnight....where, to be honest, the atmosphere/music/crowd wasn't a patch on your little number that night Kips!!!

Highlights for me about the venue for me were £5 Mojitos (deal!), size (intimate...just the way I like my venues), the full wall of mirror in the ladies (handy to check my skirt wasn't tucked in my thong! Its a genuine risk!), temperature (not too hot considering busy), plenty of seats (those 4inch heels kill!).

The venue generally though had a very Old Street retro FEEL to it in terms of decor etc....fairly typical of bars in that area. They always seem like they could do with a bit of a re-furb to bring them out the 70's! But I think that's part of the charm.

I've had a little taste of what's to come next time from Fervor and I like it....I like it a lot. I'll require to be dragged out at the END next time I am sure!

Nice work indeed - another quality review of another quality night in another quality neighbourhood venue.

I'm not sure the sofas were purely for mingling and chilling though - I could swear I saw a few folk taking turns spanking each other on them!

Lushy (and any interiror design geeks!!)- that '70s' wallpaper is actually really new, very 'now' and very expensive!!

Was quite impressed when I noticed it!

Another quality review Christopher!

Shame about the soundsystem but everything else was perfect.

Fervor is one of my favourite gigs as i have music freedom and can really take the sound to a new level.

Good work Kips, looking forward to the next one mate.
