EXCLUSIVE: Rising Fridays Interview With Pukka Up!!!

This article is about PUKKA UP IBIZA REUNION @ RS LOUNGE!! @ RS Lounge in London (UK), Fri 03 Oct 2008

Kicking off a month long extravaganza of the finest promoters in house music, the RS Lounge touches base with Pukka Up's head honcho, Mark, to find out the quirkier side to pukkering up and having rather large feet....

Intrigued??? You will be....

Where did the name 'Pukka Up' come from?

Pukka Up, the name, came from just a thought. I wanted a name that stood out and described good feelings and times! Also kissing is something I quite enjoy doing!

How did you guys get into house music? And what inspired you to put on a night?

I used to work for DJs touring round the UK, and Internationally, and saw alot of clubs and thought I could do something different. Also, due to lack of money in those days, it was a good way of going out and making money at the same time!

What's been the proudest moment in your professional life so far?

Ibiza every year gets better and better! And festivals are amazing - so it's very hard to pick one as our proudest party, as there are so many good nights that spring to mind!

What did you do for your last birthday and when was your birthday?

We did Pacha London, which was amazing and we were the first to use the new system and DJ box with a packed crowd and some people crowd surfing - amazing!

And, how young does that make you?!?!

Pukka Up is 5 years old.

What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened to you in a club?

Erm, nothing too weird really - just trying to keep our decor in the venue and trying to prevent it from escaping!

What's the best night out you've ever had?

Too many to call, but our opening Boat party in 2003 in Ibiza was special - that was when we knew we had created something special!

So, what's your favourite record of all time?

The Killers - Mr Brightside.

What's the worst Pukka Up event you've ever had to experience?

Erm, I'd say one we did in Cardiff.

What happened the last time you embarrassed yourself?

I jumped in the sea and got eggs thrown at me!

What can't you live without?

Bed and football.

Before you were a promoter, what was the worst job you'd ever had?

I used to work at Burger King. But I got free food!

What was the last record you bought?

Utah Saints' new tune.

Who or what are your musical influences?

Basement Jaxx.... Carl Cox....

Is there anything unusual or weird about you that you'd like to share with us?

I've got big feet. (Size 15).

If you had a time machine, where would you go and why?

1977 when we (Liverpool FC) won the first of five European Cups. Why? As I could watch them all live AND see house music start from the beginning.

What tunes have lodged themselves on the Pukka Up dancefloor and refuse to leave?

Mr Brightside!

What do you make of the new RS Lounge?

It's an excellent venue. It looks stylish and has a good system. The quality of nights you're putting on there is a good thing.

And, finally, what can we expect of you ahead of your night at the RS Lounge with Pukka Up?

Just madness and fun!!! We got loads of free stuff to give out and a proper party to put on!!!
