Nu Religion speaks to the clubbers ahead of Tidys return to London. Part deux

With Tidy vs Nu Religion fast approaching we speak to some of the clubbers to get there views on whats hot and whats not!!

1. Firstly can you tell us a bit about how long you have been clubbing and what you would normally get up to at the weekend?

My clubbing days started around May 2005. I had always done social nights with various circles of friends, but there was always a little piece of me that never really got on board with the music of the nights at home and at uni.

I then bought the ‘Tidy Addict (At First It Was Just A Bit Of Fun)’ CD and loved it instantly. Good old DSI was then helpful – I found a Slinky event at the Opera House in Bournemouth, went, and the rest was history. The music and just the fact you could see hundreds of people wearing the same style of clothes, facing the same way, doing the same dance, it is just so powerful.

At the weekend, I’d generally hop in a mate’s car or my own and drive miles to an event… and I love it. I have always loved the hard dance scene since I had found it.

2. So what is it you most like about clubbing and what styles of music do you listen to?

One cool thing about this area of clubbing is having an instant rapport with any other clubber, due to the joint music tastes. I have made so many friends in the ‘scene’ it's criminal.

Music styles, I would say that although the label ‘hard dance’ is a bit loose and everyone in the scene thinks that labels the commercial part of it all, I really do like all hard dance.

Hard house was how I discovered it all and I love a bit of hard energy and hardstyle, but I have a special place in my heart for energetic hard trance these days. Anything Technikal, Jason Cortez, Phil York, MDA & Spherical etc have a hand in, I’ve undoubted downloaded it for my mixing pleasure, as well as much lesser know producer Jody 6, but that will remain unearthed for a while unfortunately, unless I have anything to do with it.

3. You seem to be a bit of a legend in the clubbing seen and a familiar face to many clubbers. With the hard dance scene ever changing what do you look for in an event when deciding where you’re going to get your stomp on?

I would say that everyone is a legend in the scene. The more ‘characters’ out makes for a better night.

The ever changing scene keeps things fresh, but there is always room for classics in the mix. People always flitter with the comment that the scene is not what it used to be, but I disagree. It may not be at the peak at the minute, but that just means it can come back again. We’d all just get bored if it stayed similarly exciting.

4. With Nu Religion becoming and ever more popular brand what do you think makes it so special that it has come so far in such a short space of time?

I would say that it just struck a rapport with clubbers. Some promotions give things a go but do not go all out to impress. Nu Religion consistently books a blinding line-up from start to finish, so the clubbers keep coming back. Nothing else to say.

5. What’s the best NR event that you have been to so far and why was it so memorable?

I’m going for the cop-out answer – the First Birthday last year. I was loving it throughout and I was in my small stage of taking glowsticks to events. Rob Tissera closed the event and everyone else was seemingly caving, and so were my glowsticks, but I wasn’t. People who know me will know I do start to flag so this was insane that I was just going and going. The reason is simple though, the consistent booking of a full nights worth of unmissable DJs.

6. As clubbers are the people that keep these events running their input is always greatly valued what changes would you suggest or what would you like to see more of at future events?

To be honest, not a lot. If it could be pulled off, perhaps maybe the idea of a well ventilated bigger event being put on. It is nice to see that HHA is back this October, so if anyone else thinks like me, we are getting our wish.

Otherwise, just carry on but tweak it every time. Themes are always good too, lol.

7. Who’s your all time favourite DJ and most memorable set from your past clubbing experiences and why?

My all time favourite DJ, you’ll probably stump me there. It would be a toss up between the Tidy Boys, as with a lot of people, were how I discovered the scene, and Mr Rob Tissera, as he never fails to disappoint, period.

My most memorable set, hmmm, again, a toss up between two.

It would either be Zany’s first ever set at Tidy Weekender, that just blew me away. As much as I am a fan of Alex Kidd, it was quite weird to see him follow Zany as in my opinion, no-one could in the realms of hardstyle.

The other would be, um… Rob Tissera, at Tidy Weekender again (Version 2.0). I’d hit the arena and wandered to find people. The pobbing legend that is Slinky-Ralph appeared and we went to front middle and that very instant, Bobbie T dropped Kat People – Freefalling… it was just unbelievable.

8. If you could introduce a new concept that could help change the way that clubbing is today, what would it be?

I wouldn’t call it new as such, but as far as I am aware, it would be to the UK – the idea of Sensation White/Black in Amsterdam. I don’t think the scale would ever be pulled off, but the idea of the DJ in the middle of an arena and everyone in a ring around it, that would be awesome. I really do not think there are any arenas for it though. If this has been done, my eyes have been closed, but it would be sweet if this could be done for maybe an annual event (not including a daytime festival).

9. What clubs in the UK have you been to that you think would suit the Nu-Religion Theme and would you like to see the brand go on tour?

I honestly think the Colesseum was quite fitting. The sad thing is that sometimes, the venue makes the promotion. Air is Polysexual, the Opera House for Slinky… but I’d never be closed to a move, so long as it is not currently home for another promotion, as that is where the issue lies.

I’d love to see the brand go on tour. There would be so many easy ways doing like the current even, a versus theme, and just tour all the other big brands. This should be simple as the promotion has the pulling power.

If you could set the residency of the event in High Wycombe, that’d be sweet, as it'd be on my doorstep… although I'm not sure about it selling out as I am not exactly in the heartland of the scene.

10. If an elephant laid an egg on the roof of a house which way would it fall? Left or Right.

You are asking the wrong question, if a hippo smashed into a greenhouse, what colour would the sky be?

11. Where’s the love gone?

Nowhere… but if can you feel the love, if can you feel the energy, let me see you represent.

12. What’s your favourite cheese?

Cheddar, gotta be. All the other stuff stinks.
