L'ora meaning 'of the hour' in Spanish seemed the perfect name for this 28 year old when starting out Dj'ing in the London music scene. Having first been driven to the decks whilst partying with friends, L'ora discovered her passion for the Latino and soulful sounds simply by "feeling the excitement right down to my bones". Finding that she had a natural flair, she then spent hours practising and perfecting her skills before finding herself playing her first set at London's exclusive Mayfair club. DJ L'ORA WAS BORN. Here L'ora was spotted by a promoter who had her whisked to St. Tropez to play a series of gigs to the elite crowds both in clubs and yacht parties, sailing around The Med. Since then there's no stopping L'ora bringing her sexy, uplifting party sound to the masses both nationally and internationally. Travelling to Hong Kong, Spain, Saltzberg, Oslo and even finding time to return to her hometown in South Africa to rock the clubs.

Being monthly resident at the famous Kristall parties held in Vienna, as well as regularly playing high end bars and parties in London, has led to Pommery champagne taking a huge interest in Lora, and they have asked her play for their recently introduced Pink Pop parties in Salzburg. Putting the glamour back in the house scene, and keeping the party alive, Lora is a passionate DJ with unquestionable talent, and looks set to fit in perfectly with the flamboyant uplifting atmosphere famously associated with Kidology parties...

And as the London brand turns 2 on the 25th April, we catch up with Lora as she warms herself up for the mammoth 3000 capacity SEone and find out what she has in store....

What’s your musical background? Have you always known you wanted to work in the industry?

Well my entire family is musical, my father was a great jazz musician and singer, and my brother was a fantastic drummer who even did the Tour with the Electric light Orchestra. My Cousin is a massive up and coming producer already been signed by a german label!!! So its always been in my bones… it was my destiny!!

How long have you been DJing and how/when did it all begin?

I have been DJing for around 12 years now… it all began with having DJ friends and so wanting to know how to spin!! Eventually I saved the money bought the decks and blagged my way into djing at clubs…my first gig was in St Tropez!!! I just knew how to mix… it was a strange thing!!

Do you also produce tracks? If so, do you enjoy this? And if not, is it something you would consider in the future?

For the last year I have been learning how to produce..this is my ultimate goal… to create a track that will rock for years to come!!
Besides the feeling of making a crowd go… i think it would be 10 times better doing it with your own track!! I also have been working with some established producers and the experience I have gained is awesome!!

Can you remember the first record you ever played? What 3 tracks do you still play out that made an appearance in your early sets?

I can’t remember the exact first track but I do know that one of first tracks that for me that tickled my musical soul… was BELIEVE by Jocelyn Brown… it lit something deep inside and that was… i couldn’t get enough…

Somehow..i. still manage to sneak absolute classics..

Funky Green Dogs, Fired Up!! For me one of the most powerful house tracks ever written!!

If you could remix and re-release any classic house track, what would it be and why?

Well although it has already been done I would love remix Funky Green Dogs, Fired Up!!
It needs to be updated to the current sound in London!! I think the younger generation of clubbers should be re-introduced to such a stunning classic!!

Which other DJs do you admire in the industry? For anyone unfamiliar with you, who might you compare your style to?

Well I am lucky to be really good friends with 2 of my idol DJs… Daniele Davoli and Benny Benassi!! Right On Time is will forever be a classic track that rocks any club… and even any wedding… that’s when you know you have made it!!
I am trying to be different to other DJs..and to create my own sound… DJ Lora!!
But the early days… I loved Roger Sanchez… in his earlier career he was extremely funky but always with a deep killer base throughout!!

What’s the ultimate highlight of your career so far? And the craziest party you’ve ever been to??

There have so many…quite a few actually, but if I had mention one… I got to headline a crazy party for MTV… for around 1000 people.in Lanzarote. But the best thing was that it was in CAVE… HOW BIZARRE!!

What do you get up to when you aren’t DJing, do you have many other passions?

Well funny you should mention it, I can’t enough of being on stage so in my spare time I am an actress. I’ve just come back from Malaysia filming a documentary for Channel 5… so so so fun!!

You’re playing next weekend at Kidology’s 2nd Birthday party at SEone, have you played this venue before? Do you enjoy the scene in London?

Yes once before with Kidology!!! It’s a great Venue with lots of knooks and crannys to hide in!! This club reminds me of when house party’s were at their best… it’s all about the music!!

Where else will you be playing this year? Any plans for Ibiza?

Well I have quite a few international dates planned… so far in Cairo, India and then France!! I have already done Paris and Italy so far this year. Summer is just beginning and things start to go crazy in the DJ World..

Yes I will definitely be in Ibiza this year!! Hopefully playing with Kidology!! Their style really brings Ibiza alive for me!!
