Fashion is for Wankers, Fancy Dress is for Idiots...
Clubs and fashion seem to be veering worryingly close together at the moment, obviously they have always been linked but what happened to the good old utilitarian raving wear, or even to clubs where it didn't matter what you were wearing, all tribes coming together in one place.

There is something about fashion that drives me up the wall, it it like the ultimate vacuous consumerism, the capitalist dream.

As for fancy dress what are we grown adults doing acting like kids, I saw a photo of my sixth birthday party the other day and look at me twenty *cough* something years later....still doing the same stuff. That said I am happily in the idiot fancy dress brigade, feeling like a bit of a fool helps get you into a who gives a shit party place. (It's a bit like coke and E's - you can be a sweaty grinning fool or a teeth grinding arsehole...but dont let me get started on that)

Here here! Well admittedly I'm closer to the sixth birthday party than to the 'twenty *cough* something years later', and I suppose that means I can get away with wearing silly things. No? Okay then, maybe not!

But you raise a good discussion here, Mr Francisco; just today I was pondering over what silly things to wear for the next Throb. Do I veer towards the Sheikh Ya Harem theme of sequin-clad bellydancers and sheer veils, or do I go for traditional Throb boat party attire, which can be anything from a sailor's outfit, a sexy corset and stockings, to just a thong and some nipple tassles! Burlesque has been big this year too, and I bet Heath wouldn't mind me pinching a red feather fan or two from the Polestars stash!

Fashion has never really been my forte, so I guess that makes me a fancy dress idiot. Sweaty grinning fool en route! x

I totally agree with you! That's why I simply wear and choose what makes me happy, what I'm comfortable with and what I believe to suit me. Always, regardless whether it's fashionable or not at the time!

Fashion is for people who need others to think for them what to wear. x

its funny though cause sometimes some clubbers in trendy places like shorditch no offence to anyone try so hard with their fashion that they often look like they are in fancy dress...only with out all the smiling and happiness...more like an uber cool clown goth cat walk model.

Im somewhere in the middle...i dont dress up much and im not that fashionable no matter how hard i try but i dont mind whether your wearing the most coolest clothes or look silly....or both as is often the case, as long as you've come out to enjoy your selves i love ya

I've never been to Throb...or Studio 69? I'm worried those kind of places will be really snooty and hoity-toity.

Although it could be quite fun to try to act like a gimp. "Why I do say, what a spiffing night. Look at that trollop over there! What does she think she is wearing! Astounding, so last autumn!"

Yeah, what matters is the person - The clothes do not make the man.

You should give it a go Raa! Throb is what ever you want to make of it as long as it implies lots of fun. At least that 's how I see it, I wouldn't put it any label at all. x

it would be nice to meet all the familiar faces I see on here who don't go to the events I normally do. Feel as if I know some of you so well...

Raa if there's one place I'd love to meet you it'd be Throb, you will know loads of people already and everyone will ensure you'll get to know heaps more, it's almost like looking after Throb virgins is like a sport coz most people remeber their 1st time being made so special and want to carry on that tradition, I believe.

Throb is so uncool that it's almost cool. So silly that it's genuine. And so cheeky that it's totally sexy. Be prepared to suffer jaw ache the next day, I tend to walk round grinning like the chezire cat who licked all the cream with a cherry on top. Oh yeah and pout for pictures a lot, maybe I'm a cross between a trout and a cat then. I keep coming back for Throb like a truely committed crack addict haha.

Anyway, on dressing up and Throb: it's not everyone's thing but there is no dress code it's just encouraged. Just those who do believe it to be more fun. So you can just be you, whoever you are (lovely fella/chicky in glam or jeans, or total disco diva/schoolgirl/bollywood starlett/nurse/police woman or whatever the hell you want to be that night in theme or not....)

Fashion can be fun as long as you know to pick what suits you, don't beome a victim..... :-)

I know what you mean! x

I agree with you DD. Fashion can be fun if we don't make of it a "uniform", at the end of the day people should do what makes them happy.

snooty and hoity-toity.

Thats really interesting that we come across like that, its actually the last thing you could ever accuse a throbber of, however you will only work that out when you get there...

I have to admit I love both fashion and fancy dress, I think the former is an expression of your personality (unless of course you have the misfortune to work in the City and are confined to the compulsory suit uniform) and a fondness for the latter just proves you don't take the former too seriously. Part of the fun with fashion is making a few mistakes and realising afterwards so you work out what suits you and what doesn't. For me fashion is all about fun, and although I enjoy it I don't spend tons on it (I'm a lover of ebay) so I don't feel like I'm feeding some big consumerist machine.

I'm puzzled though, because isn't part of Throb the fancy dress element and you're saying you don't like it?

I am saying that I love it but that it is idiotic. I hear what your saying about expressing yourself, and even though I could never be accused of being fashionable if I really didn't care I could dress out of the charity shop and never buy branded trainers etc.

I heart dressing up - its the best! The fashion thing ruffles my feathers too, a friend of mine had there birthday party at boombox and as fun as it was looking at what everyone was wearing, i felt really sad for them, this has become there life, trying to be so different and it makes them nasty ( had a massive debate on this with the editor of super super magazine and i came to the conclusion that his parents didnt give him enough attention)

I recently found pictures of me dressed up at my 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th birthday parties, its much more fun being silly with it rather than taking it seriously.

Ah but I don't think you need to buy branded trainers or whatever, I mean look at what some of the "cool" people in Shoreditch wear.... ;)

Some of those Boombox people just look plain ridiculous, rather than good, for example:
