This article is about Nu Religion Presents The First Birthday @ The Colosseum in London (UK), Sat 12 May 2007
May is Nu Religion month! Ahead of next weeks 1st Birthday bash at The Colosseum in London, we spoke to promoter Damo about Nu Religion's first year in the business, and can exclusively reveal details of the Nu Religion Live album mixed by James Condon...
The Interview!
You’ve been putting on quite a few events over the last year. Are you going to keep rolling out parties on such a regular basis or will you be focusing on a smaller number from now?
As of the birthday I have decided I’m going to focus on the larger events.
When you threw your first party at Hidden last year, did you think that you’d be throwing a party as big as your first birthday bash just a year later?
Not in a million years! It’s been an amazing year for the brand. To see if develop from nothing into a established brand is amazing and I’m pleased that all the long nights/days have really paid off!
I know you’ll want to be diplomatic but...if you could only watch one set at the 1st Birthday, which would it be and why? In fact knowing how busy you’ll be you’ll probably only have time for one!
It would have to be Jimmy Dean. I’ve watched him play a last couple of times I have been out and about, and he’s never failed to deliver a storming set he’s definitely one to watch!
What’s the deal with the Nu Religion album? Has it been a lot of effort to put it all together?
Well, James Condon has made up an exclusive mix CD that will be available through Nukleuz via I-Tunes. A lot of work has gone into making it but believe me it’s awesome!
Are you pleased with how James Condon’s career has been coming along?
Yes very, I can’t believe how time has flown since we launched Nu Religion. To see him playing at events such Global Gathering, Frantic, Storm is an awesome achievement
What’s planned for the rest of the year?
I’m going to have a well deserved break for a few months then will be back at the end of the year to put on an awesome NYE party!
Do you feel you can take risks with your events given the current climate of the hard dance scene? Or has this become less feasible in recent years?
I think over the last 6 months things have really changed with in the scene. Things have really stated to get hard for everyone. The scene is changing all the time - I’m sure it won’t be too long until things start to pick up again.
What’s been the hardest lesson you’ve had to learn since you started promoting?
Never rush into things... and always be willing to take advice off people.
And finally – who is the king of hard dance in your opinion? And why?
It has to be Kutski for me, he never fails to impress me his mixing and track selection is second to none.
