There’s a reason why TDK Cross Central has such an enviable reputation and why they consistently triumph with bands on the brink of breaking. Each time a new set of artists are revealed it goes another step further to clarify just why TDK Cross Central is leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. With a ridiculously acute eye on the bands and DJS that are making waves right now this event offers more than big names and big tents, it offers quality from tomorrow’s talent and yesterday’s heroes. And it’s why true musical purveyors are queuing up to play this groundbreaking event.
Current media darlings and rising stars HOT CHIP have confirmed that they will be joining TDK Saturday for what will undoubtedly be a memorable and energetic show of skippity-hoppity beats and minimalist electro. Their second album ‘The Warning’ is currently receiving huge critical acclaim across the board and with its fusion of futuristic-funk, eccentric experimental-eletro-soul, it is being hailed as the finest album of electronic rock since Mylo’s ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’.
Next up who couldn’t be excited at the chance to witness the legend that is NIGHTMARES ON WAX SOUNDSYSTEM. Setting the standard since ’91 their latest offering ‘In a Space Outta Sound’ has been no less inspiring that it’s predecessors. Weaving old samples with trade mark infectious rhythms and blues infused time signatures, it is easy to see why they have been Warp’s most successful output.
Another coup for the ever expanding event sees BBC Radio 1’s GILLES PETERSON bring his award winning “Worldwide” show to the event. As a further stamp of quality Gilles will be programming and hosting his own room in Canvas 1 and bringing his trademark acid jazz sounds with him. From jazz to soul to broken beat and with guests including West London collective Bugs In The Attic this is shaping up to be an exceptional musical addition.
With other luminaries such as the genius musical chameleons Coldcut, Amon Tobin, playing London for the first time in over 12 months and Money Mark aka the fourth Beastie Boy also now confirmed TDK Cross Central is ready to deliver one of its most brilliant shows to date; and there is still more to come. Expect more announcements within in the week and while you wait, feast your eyes on the already sizzling selection of acts that will be descending upon King’s Cross this August.
