Your Live sets consist of one of you playing the saxophone whilst the other DJs and adds effects. How did you first come about playing with one another?
ED: I started to play the flute at the age of 8 and after many years I thought it was time for a change. The Sax was always my favourite instrument, and the loud and funky sound was enough for me to want to take it up. I had a very good music tutor who was a total Jazz junkie. He pushed Jazz on us kids and got me hooked on the freedom that both Jazz and Sax offers.
James on the other hand used to reject all music except rock and then done exactly the same when he experienced dance music! The curtains that had sat on his head for years mutated overnight into cyber twisted spikes. He left the band that he was in and concentrated his efforts into buying fake I.D’s and sneaking into London clubs! After spending a few summers out in Ibiza he came back with a passion for Funky, Balearic, Samba, Latin, Salsa and Tribal influenced house music. James taught me how to mix and later suggested that we should perform together.
How did you get involved with heygorgeous?
James: I had been to a couple of HG nights in London and had always been impressed with the crowd and the music. However I believe that they approached us whilst we were playing in a local basement club the night after a very long set at Egg club. As far as I can remember Rob stumbled in the club half way through our set grabbed the back of my balls to get my attention and told me that we were going to play for HG at Turnmills!
Ed: Just like how James gets all his jobs!
What have the heygorgeous nights been like so far?
James: Awesome. All of the DJs who perform are of the highest calibre. The headline acts are always artists who are exciting and making waves within their field. Those of us who are not headliners are doing something different whether it’s stylistically or technically.
Ed: I have enjoyed every minute of it. The crowd appreciate what we are trying to do with music and don’t turn away in disgust when we try something a little different or experimental. The heygorgeous parties never disappoint and attract a diverse mix of people. Because of this we bit off Rico’s hand when he offered us a residency with them.
What are your ultimate career aspirations?
Ed: To be the best we can be. Over the last year we have worked on using the Saxophone not just as an instrument but also as a live sound bank. By using different effect devices we have been able to transform certain tracks in a number of ways through effects, acapellas etc.
We are especially interested in developing as artists who aren’t afraid to experiment with technology whilst continuing to source and embrace the Latino and Balearic vibe. I haven’t seen any other house acts doing what we are doing and we have really established ourselves over last 2 years Is it stressful being both DJs and brothers?
James: Its stressful sourcing tunes that we both like and think would work in a set. Then we have to filter through them to see which ones work well with the Sax. Composing a set can take fooking ages. So the process is long and stressful. However it is obviously worth it once we perform it out.
Ed: Haha. We argue and get stressed but yeah it’s all worth it once we are on stage. Our spare pair of headphones broke yesterday (damn Pioneers) so this Friday has even more stress attached then normal. However by Friday it will all be forgotten as we step into a pumping heygorgeous room and kick start our new residency.
Well lads it's a great pleasure and a honour to have you both on board !!
No doubt you are about to turn the party out !!!!
Don't forget you can also catch them at their brand new residency with heygorgeous! this Friday and every 4th Friday @ the Cross along side Twisted Disco
