Only a few hours till Twistedisco, we speak to their international resident Carl Alexandro!

Its Friday afternoon, 2 hours to go before the long weekend has truly landed and what better way to kick it off than Twisted Disco at The Cross, we speak to our international resident Carl Alexandro ahead of his set

Hi Carl so how was your week so far?

Hey dude, yeah it was good. Very busy in preparation for Twisted Disco, been working in the studio on some new tracks and planning out my set. It’s always hectic on the lead up to the event which is fun but stressful at the same time. Just looking forward to getting behind those decks and rocking it!

Now for those who don’t know you please give us a brief run of who you are?

Well my name is Carl Alexandro, originally from Malta; I’m one of the co promoters and residents at Twisted Disco at The Cross. I’ve been DJing for about 5 years now for clubs such as Maximal in London and have residencies in Italy and Madrid. Hmmm well that’s about it! Oh and I have a black Labrador called Bernie!

So where did it all start for you how did you get into the dance music scene?

I guess it was when I moved over to London, I got into dance music by going to places like Leisure Lounge, Camden Palace, and Rocket etc – back in the Old Skool days of big raves and smiley faces. I got into house and techno through my good old pal Matty Wells from Smartie Partie I went to one of his gigs and the crowd was just so responsive to the music, that was really the turning point for me I guess. That’s when I went from being a hobby into a real passion for me I knew I wanted to be a DJ.

As you progress as a DJ your taste mature, what were your early influences and how would you describe your style now?

My early influences we based in what most people would call proper house, the more Joey Negro and Azuli type sound. As I progressed through the year my sets are now very much Tech and Tribal influenced with a whole lot groove to bring it all together.

Now back to the presence what DJs and producers are doing it for you right now?

There is so much good music and good DJs at the moment, that it’s really hard to pin it down to a few but the guys who are really doing it for me at the moment are masticsoul, DJ Linus ,msoga & Alfa Remero to name but a few.

We hear that your producing, have you got any releases planned at the moment?

I’ve been working closely with Maximal resident Matt Thompson in his London Studio and we’ve got three good tracks that we’ve already had a bit of interest in by the labels. I’m also working with Matty Wells from SP recordings on a few projects. I’m really dedicating myself to really defining my own sound through the productions, it’s so important as a DJ if you want to break through.

Your resident at Twisted Disco at The Cross, London’s busiest Friday night, how did this all come about?
I’ve been working closely with the promoter JC for a while now and was DJing for him at the Maximal events at The Key. He was looking for a versatile resident to come on board for Twisted Disco and approached me, I jumped at it and here we are today.

How would you describe a Twisted Disco night?

The most important thing about Twisted Disco is the crowd, just super sexy party heads getting down from dusk till dawn. The music policy is quite simple, just the very best in all things house, the atmosphere is just electric

We here The Cross is closing in a few months, how do you think this will affect clubland and will you be sad to see it go?

I for one will be gutted, its easily one of the best venues in London without a doubt, when the close the doors and bulldozers move in its gonna be a sad day but we’ve got quite a few parties before that happens and believe me they are gonna be big!
