Jimpster chats to Club Azuli ahead of 29th Dec @ The Cross!

Club Azuli presents the final ever Saturday night at the famous Cross, so we thought we would push the boat out and get some of our favourite DJs, producers and friends to come and play.

Across four rooms there's the Italian connection with Audiofly and Ricky Montanari taking over the main room, 15 years of house from two long serving figure heads of dance music with Danny Rampling and Azuli's David Piccioni and in the lounge is one of the hardest working and hottest names in dance music Jimpster.

Jimpster is one of those DJs who stays just under the radar but pops up every now and again with an extra special remix or production, that's not even to mention he is the head of the Freerange Records imprint. This man knows his music and lucky for everyone in attendance on the 29th December, how to rock a room too. We caught up with Jimpster before he plays the lounge at The Cross.

Will you be sad to see The Cross as well as The Key / Canvas go?
That little patch has been London's clubbing oasis for as long as I've known and it's always a sad sign when good clubs shut down but saying that, I'm sure some cool new stuff will open at some point next year, and preferably without the moody doormen! Can I say that?

You've had some big remixes this year, have you had any strange remix requests?
To be honest it's been a bit remix overload I think so decided to not really take any on apart from Freerange stuff so I can concentrate on some new original tracks. Not really had any unusual requests but Myspace is a nightmare for getting loads of freaks expecting you to check out their demo, remix it and give it to them for free!

Freerange has had a great year but with record labels having a hard time at the moment, what's the plans for freerange in 2008?
First of all get a new distributor as we've just been knocked by Amato and Goya. Then as soon as that's sorted it's full on back into it as we've got some mighty music to put out from the likes of Serafin, MotorCitySoul, Marcel Wave, Milton Jackson, Square One, Manuel Tur, Joris Voorn and Palm Skin Productions.

You're part of the improvised act The Bays - how did that come about?
I was asked by Tom Middleton to come and play keyboards for this jam session with a difference he was having with some excellent musicians and producers, namely Mark Pritchard, Danny Breaks and drummer Andy Gangadeen). The idea of live improvised house/techno/electronica with no laptops or sequencers kind of developed to the point where it was good enough to gig and things just seemed to snowball from there. Lots of interesting gigs in the pipeline including an improvised gig with a live 20 piece orchestra at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 4th January. Then Capetown International Jazz Festival in March.

What have you got in store for us on the 29th dec for the final Azuli party at The Cross?
I think I'm playing in the Lounge room so it'll be deep, warm and soulful electronic house with a hint of tech and a dash of disco.

Finally any new year resolutions?
Spend more time thinking about the answers to questions in interviews?
