Ahead of the Lost Souls event to be taking place inconjunction with Space @Cross on 3rd March, where White Noise will be hosting the main room on with Kriss Darang & Junior J headlining things. We asked the two whether they would mind having a chat heres what was said...
Kriss Darang & Jnr J how and when did you meet and what made you decide
you wanted to work together as a team?
Jnr: We met though Unknown FM about 3 years ago. We’d both been on the station for sometime but our paths had never crossed until an Unknown event called Good Life at The Egg. Kriss was on the set before me and was playing extremely well rinsing tracks that I had never heard in my life. I remember thinking “wow I need to play well after this guy”. We got chatting after the gig a quickly formed one of those bonds as if we had always been mates. Soon after our meeting Kriss invited me to his studio to collaborate and first track “Twisted” was born. After the track was completed we realised that we were on to something as a duo and all that was left was to argue who’s name came first…Guess who lost that one!
What has been your most memorable moment since becoming a duo?
Kriss: There’s been so many since the beginning as it’s been one hell of a ride but one I love was at the last Just The One? Party where Jnr and I we’re having a blinding set warming up for Derrick Carter. We still had an hour and a half of our set left to go when Derrick came down from his private V.I.P area and decided to party to our music…he was loving it! To see one of my idols dancing to our music gave me an almost over whelming feeling…Wicked!
Do you ever disagree so much you feel like strangling each other?
Jnr: Kriss doesn’t know this but I have a system for when we’re making music together…If he does something that I want to change I let it slide for a while and when he comes up with another suggestion for something else, even when it’s good I argue about it with him and them let him win on that one. Then because he’s won on that argument I go back to the first thing I wanted to change and argue that point. He now feels that he’s taking too much control and lets me change it…it’s all about the manipulation ;) Failing that I just throw a diva strop and that usually works.
Kriss: And I tend to flip on the slightest thing no matter how trivial.
To somebody who is not aware of you both, how would you describe your style
when it comes performing and producing?
Kriss: We’re both very different I’m a lot more groovy and like build things up in an intelligent and sometimes deep manner where as Jnr likes it big, in your face and quite childish (his own words). This means that when we play/produce together we go on a roller coaster ride with lots of twists and turns along the way full of exiting music both new and old. It took us a while to fit to two styles together but we’ve cracked it and have got to a point where we can give even the most purist crowds what they want whilst making them love things that they may have previously thought wasn’t for them.
The two of you have recently launched your own label Devore Recordings what
can we expect to come of it for 2007?
Both: Devore records will be providing quality upfront house music from a wide range of house genres. As we like so many different types of House Music we’re not going to pigeon hole our selves by sticking to one genre. We’re focussing on quality house music with new and exciting productions coming from the world’s undiscovered producers. We’re both always on the hunt for new music and Harj who’s in charge of our A&R department is an expert at scouring the world for hot shit. Our 1st release “Freakz” by Kid Dub will be on release 28th March 07. Get it!!!
If you could choose any artists to work with in the future who would they be
and why?
Both: If we answered the question fully this interview would turn in to a novel ;) There are so many wicked producer and musicians that we’d love to work with some of which we’re in negotiations with now. We're just gonna keep trying to climb the ladder and hopefully some of our dreams collaborations will come to pass. Watch this space.
How do you see electronic music developing?
Both: Music is at an extremely exciting place what with how easy it is to create music and the live element that has now come in to play. Producers are becoming more like composers creating harmonic grooves out of things that are not traditionally considered harmonic and technology is moving forward at an accelerating pace meaning that new techniques and hardware are developing all the time, the things that can be done nowadays with regards to electronic music is nothing short of amazing and it will never stop evolving.
What was your favourite tracks for 2006 and what do you tip to be big for
2007?
Kriss: 2006 Sebastien Leger – Fairmount rmx is amazing and still gets played in our sets and for 2007 there’s a track called My Resolve by Nick and Danny Chatelain on Bambosa Records. We both heard it last year and nearly wet our pants in awe…I think Jnr might have…
Last year you had a residencey for Subliminal how was that? and this year you have a residencey for Bambossa can you tell us a little more?
Kriss: Yeah was really good to do the Subliminal Sessions brand which we both love and grew up on, and now we’re getting the chance to play for Bambossa records for 4 dates this year so we’re really exited. All we know is there is going to be a big push from Bambossa and Harry Romero release wise with parties around the world.
Your two events you promote 'Jus the One?' and 'Juniors Jamm', Can you tell
us any inside info on guests or special events for this year?
Both: Kriss promotes Just the One? We have Mr C coming Geddes and joint parties with BacktoBasics in the future so Paul Woolford will be returning as well as Ralph Lawson, and some other super star dj’s which I cant mention at the moment.

Jus The One? made its first visit to Ibiza last summer at the worlds most
beautiful club El Divino how did that feel and will you both be returning to
the White Island this year?
Jnr: Was amazing an time and party. Met some crazy peeps on our travels and formed some lasting relationships. Will we be back in 2007? Don’t know we are off to Barcellona in April, Istanbul in May and starting beach parties in Thailand, Antigua and a possibility of Miami so who knows if we’ll have time.
You were ask to do one of your legendary Kriss Darang vs. Junior J sets for
March 07s DJ Mag Cover CD which will be released worldwide. Well Done, how
did this come about?
Both: It’s all down to Just the One? And seOne really its their 3rd cover mount they have done and we where put forward to represent as there main residents. We are both well chuffed at the support and opportunity we have been given and hope we don’t let anyone down. Speaking of which we had better go and record it now!
Thanks to you both, we look forward to the 3rd March!
